Common food allergies

Just about anything can cause a food allergy but some foods like milk and peanuts can cause a food allergy to become very dangerous. Here are the foods that are common food allergies:

  1. Milk
  2. Eggs
  3. Shellfish
  4. Wheat
  5. Soya
  6. Nuts
  7. Fish
It is common for infants to have allergic reactions to milk but many children often continue the allergic reaction to milk along with nuts and even wheat. Adults tend to develop allergic reactions to shellfish along with citrus fruit and nuts as well. Here are some of the most common food allergies you need to be aware of in order to help avoid a trip to the emergency room because of a reaction to a food allergy.

Coconut Allergy
A coconut allergy is one of the most common food allergies and it can lead to anaphylactic shock if you aren't careful. This will cause you to carry around an injection at all times in the event that you are exposed to coconut and your throat begins to close up so you are unable to breathe.

Gluten (Celiac disease) Allergy
Some cereals along with wheat's and barley include a mixture of proteins, which is known as gluten. This is why there are so many gluten-free stores and other places popping up all over the place lately as more Americans are discovering their bodies are rejecting these proteins. What happens if you do not eat right? Gluten will end up leading to small intestine damage as it is unable to absorb the nutrients from the foods you eat.

Egg Allergy
Another common allergy is to be allergic to eggs. This type of allergy is often diagnosed early in childhood but some kids actually grow out of it around age 3-4. What an egg allergy does is cause anaphylaxis in some children due to the proteins that are found in the egg whites.

Fish Allergy
Adults often suffer from fish allergies. Like many other food allergies a fish allergy can cause anaphylaxis. Shellfish is one of the most common fish allergies in adults. It is also quite common for people to have allergic reactions to many types of fish when their bodies react to one type of fish.

Milk (Lactose) Allergy
A lactose intolerance is quite common for many people. The sugars that are found in milk often lead to lactose intolerance. What happens with a lactose allergy is simply a shortage of a particular enzyme that is known as lactase. Lactase is necessary to help break down lactose and to have it properly absorbed into the bloodstream. When a person has a lactose intolerance you might end up with diarrhea and some "simple" things like bloating but others can deal with a lot of cramping and other painful problems.Cow's milk and goat's milk can both cause the intolerance to occur and soy milk is one of the best options for individuals with a lactose allergy.

A milk allergy is slightly different from lactose intolerance. With a milk allergy babies are commonly affected as they are unable to drink milk and instead need to opt for soy formula or soy milk. What a milk allergy will do is lead to diarrhea, rashes, vomiting, and also stomach cramps.

Nut Allergy
A nut allergy is a large problem. A nut allergy can cause something like a canker sore but it can also lead to very serious health concerns. Anaphylaxis is one of the leading concerns with nut allergies and most individuals with the allergy must carry around an injection to save their lives. If you do need to use the injection you must also visit the ER as soon as possible to have them check on your condition.
