Males are at risk for several health threats from cancer, heart disease, enlarged prostate, and also hair loss. What can you do to reduce your risk of heart disease and other health concerns? Here is some information about common men's health issues and how you can prevent them with some simple at-home tips.

Enlarged Prostate
This is perhaps one of the biggest men's health issues that you need to be aware of. With an enlarged prostate you will have a very frequent urge to urinate. Diet seems to be one of the things that increases your problems with an enlarged prostate but it also begins with age. For some people it starts at age 55 and will only get worse until age 85 to 95. Diets high in vegetables, low in alcohol, and low in fat will all reduce your risk of prostate cancer and an enlarged prostate.

An enlarged prostate causes the urethra to narrow and this makes it very difficult to urinate. Surgery can help to open the urethra and make the tube that connects the bladder through the prostate larger so urination is easier. Since it is hard to urinate and you will have a sudden need to urinate, you may need up having problems with urination when you are not prepared. Some men purchase adult diapers to help deal with the urinary leakage.

Hair Loss
Men and women can both experience hair loss although hair loss is more common in men versus women. A male can begin losing their hair at age 18 or younger. When you suffer from hair loss it is common to lose up to 150 or more hairs per day. Male hair loss is caused from predetermined genetic factors and has nothing to do with your diet however there are some other factors that can increase your risk of hair loss:

  • Stress

  • Hormonal changes

  • Anemia

  • Thyroid disease

There are some things you can do to help reduce hair loss like using Rogaine but for extreme hair loss, hair transplant surgery may be the only option you have to replace your missing hair. Speak to your doctor about treatment options for hair loss as they may be able to help you keep the hair you have and prevent further thinning.

Heart Disease
One of the biggest killers to men is heart disease. It is also a leading killer for women but it can be prevented by proper eating and daily exercise. Your doctor will speak to you about the different things you can do that will aid in protecting your heart and making you healthier. Obesity is one of the leading causes of heart disease as the heart needs to work harder to pump the blood throughout the body. It can also be hard for the heart to work as there is plaque in the veins. Heart disease can be easily prevented with the following tips:

  • Lose weight. A healthy BMI will go a long way in preventing heart disease and will be able to help you live a longer, healthier life.

  • Stop smoking. Not only does smoking increase your risk of cancer, it increases your risk of heart disease as well because it starves the body of necessary oxygen.

  • Start exercising. Exercise helps the body to stay healthier. Leading an active lifestyle is one of the best ways to strengthen your heart and your entire body so you can reduce your risk of heart disease. Just 30 minutes of brisk walking will go a long way in preventing heart disease.

  • Reduce your stress load. Stress is one of the leading killers as it does have a huge impact on your body. You need to do what you can to try and reduce your stress load or it will shorten you lifespan.

  • Eat healthier. A healthier diet is a great way to live longer and prevent heart disease. You are what you eat so you need to increase your intake of fresh vegetables and reduce your risk of foods that are high in fat and sodium.
