Helping employees realize the benefits of good health

manconferencetable30341271.jpgGood health is something that is sought by many people, but there are still millions of people all over the world who are considered unhealthy and who either don't care or are unwilling to take the steps necessary to become healthier.Sometimes what it takes to help people want to get healthier is by just allowing them to understand the benefits of good health.

One great example of helping employees understand good health is through the example of smoking and what happens to a person after the quit smoking.When someone smokes their last cigarette, about 20 minutes later they have the blood pressure and heart rate decrease after being elevated in the body.The temperature of the extremities increase back to normal and they just start to feel a little better.After a while the carbon monoxide levels the blood begin to drop and the oxygen levels increase again to normal levels in the bloodstream.A full day after they take the last drag, they dramatically decrease the risk of having a heart attack because their blood is at normal levels and pumping properly.A few days after quitting they begin to repair nerve damage that was caused by the smoking and they are able to taste and smell better again.After a few months, blood flow overall improves and simple tasks like walking and breathing in general become easier and more regular.Eventually coughing, sinus infections and other respiratory problems decrease dramatically and the risk of developing heart disease decreases.The risk of stroke decreases between 5 and 15 years after quitting and people who quit smoking will eventually get to the point where their health is similar to those who have never smoked in their lives.

This is a long and dramatic example, but the reality of the matter is that taking steps to improve health in any field will quickly and dramatically bring better physical and mental health to an employee and these both contribute to a better work environment and work productivity.Physical exercise is something that is stressed by agencies all over the world and many people are trying to get started and stick to a program.Many companies are adopting work exercise programs that provide facilities or resources to memberships that will allow them to live a healthier lifestyle overall.Regular exercise is another thing that quickly demonstrates the value of good health.Those who undertake an exercise program quickly realize that they feel better after the first session and that although they have some pain or discomfort at first, that the result is more compelling than the reasons to stop exercising.Those with back pain or difficulty walking start to feel better overall and have less pain when they exercise.

Scaring employees or other people into doing something is a tactic that is often employed and that is sometimes effective and sometimes not.Rational people are motivated by results and when they see that something will truly benefit them, they are much more likely to give it a chance and to take on something new.Be creative and help your employees see the benefits of good overall health and make it clear that being healthy not only makes life easier to live, but also makes working a better experience.Because people spend so much of their waking time at work or on the job, it is especially important that they see how living healthy can really impact their work life.Communicate the benefits of higher drive and a better sense of satisfaction that accompanies good health of employees and you will see the difference too.
