Best payroll software for business

Processing payroll can be one of the most complex and time consuming tasks a business must face. To determine a payroll solution that is right for your business, you will need to be realistic about the amount of time and money you can devote to this task. To help you choose the best payroll software for your business, you may want to take a few things into consideration such as:
1.The three types of payroll systems.
Manual payrolls is when you or another employee, calculates the payroll entirely on paper each pay period. In addition to employee's actual earnings, taxes, insurance, 401k, and other applicable deductions need to be calculated. This is a very inexpensive method of processing payroll because there is almost no start up costs, but what is saved there is made up by the extensive amount of time it takes to process the payroll. When processing payroll manually it is very easy to make mistakes, which can be costly, especially mistakes made during tax season.

Computerized is the second type of payroll system. To assist in processing payroll, many companies offer computer processing software. The software will calculate taxes and other deductions and all you need to do is input information for each employees whenthey are first hired. This type of system can be a huge time saver with programs that will process W-2 forms for each employee at the end of the year. Computerized payroll system's provide less mistakes and less time spent processing payroll. You will still have to manually input each employee's hours and update the software when ever a new tax law go into effect.
External payroll service is the last payroll system. This is the most expensive type of payroll system, and is more commonly used by large companies. Larger companies may find it pays for itself, because without it they would have to hire a full-time employee that is responsible for processing payroll. Companies such as ADP and Paychex are companies that process your payroll, this includes submitting all the necessary tax payments and generating year end reports. The high cost of this type of payroll system is not the only disadvantage, security can be a huge issue if your payroll computer is on the same network as all of the other computers in your company. This can be avoided by having acomputer that is only used for payroll and can go online without using the same connection as the other computers.

Another consideration when choosing the best payroll software for your business is the number of employees you have. It may be very easy to process payroll manually if you have fewer than ten employees with hours that stay about the same from one pay period to the next. A software package may be the way to go, if you have between ten and fifty employees, and if there are a very small number of complex issues involved. You will want to either hire an employee to strictly process payroll or hire an outside payroll services, if your company has more than fifty employees, which would make it a rather large company.

If you have a large number of employees at different rates of pay and on different pay scales, you may spend a lot of time processing payroll. An external payroll service may be the best choice for your business. Computerized payroll may be the best type of payroll system for companies that have under fifty employees. Costly mistakes that are easily made with manual payroll is a big concern and may not be the best choice for a company that has even the smallest number of employees.
