Grants can also be given by corporations or foundations to another agency or business in the form of money, computers or anything that may be needed to run the business more effectively. Writing a grant proposal properly can really help you in getting the specific grant. Here we will go through some steps on how to write a grant proposal.

The first thing you will need to do when you write a grant for any type of funding or services is to have a clear understanding as to why you want the grant. You should have a good idea as to why you want the funding offered by the grant and what you will do with the money or services if you do receive the specific grant. Knowing these things will help you write a more effective grant to turn into the grant holders. Make lists of why you want the money, putting it on paper before writing the grant will help you to write it out better. It will also help you to write down the many things you can accomplish with the grant if you do receive the specific grant.

When you have a good idea of why you want the grant and what you can accomplish with the grant then you can begin writing the grant. The first paragraph of your grant proposal should be a short summary. The summary will help the grantor understand quickly and at a glance what you are seeking. This summary should be at the beginning of your proposal or on a cover sheet. The summary should be about 2-3 sentences in length.

In a few short paragraphs you need to explain what your business does and why the grantor can trust your business to use the grant responsibly. These few short paragraphs should include a brief history of your business, the mission of your business, what area of the populations it serves and the track record your business has for achieving its mission. The next section of your grant proposal should include why you need the grant. This is where you should convince the grantor you need the funds for your business. You should then go on to tell the grantor how you will achieve the goals you have set for the funds you are asking for. Let the grantor know how the funds will help your business and the community. Putting in extra materials such as financial statements of your business will help the grantor with the decision of choosing someone for their grant.

Writing an effective grant proposal will increase your chances of acquiring a specific grant. Know why you want the grant and what you will do with the grant if you are indeed awarded it.
