Health and wellness performance in the workplace

glasses33269505.jpgDo you focus on the health and wellness for your employees? There aren't too many employers out there that are making strides to improve the health and wellness of their employees. If you aren't making an effort to help your employees make better eating choices and exercise choices, you could be doing them injustice. As an employer you have a responsibility to care for your employees and when their health and wellness is compromised it can lead to serious problems for you as they are taking time off work and their productivity at work is also decreasing.

The physical health of your employees needs to be a priority. While they all don't need to be superb athletes you want to try and make sure they are getting at least 20-30 minutes of good exercise in each day. By giving your employees an on-site fitness center or gym memberships you will be increasing their chances of exercising. It's a great way to show your employees why you are concerned about them and to show them that you really want them to get healthy and care for their bodies in the right way. Even a desk job needs to have some level of physical stamina. Your employees that are in good shape will have more energy which leads to higher productivity and they are less likely to become ill and take sick leave. Employers lose billions of dollars each year because of sick employees.

Not only does exercise help to increase the employees stamina and energy it can actually build up their self-esteem as well and provide them with a physiological wellbeing. It's a great way to keep your companies spirits high as this will boost employee morale and job satisfaction. Employees that are in shape and healthy are less likely to get injured at work. They have timely reflexes and clarity, which will allow them to avoid a dangerous situation at work. When you are healthier you are alert and the likelihood that you will put yourself in harm's way is reduced.

As an employer you not only have a certain level of responsibility to the health of your staff but to the prevention of accidents. Unsafe working conditions need to be fixed in a timely manner. You should never place your staff in harm's way as they could end up seriously injured but because it can also lead to expensive costs for your company as you have to pay higher premiums to your health insurance provider along with workers compensation. Walk the floor of your manufacturing plant or even walk around the office to see what type of things could cause very serious injuries so you can rearrange the office or remove the things that could lead to very serious injuries. Avoiding workplace accidents at all costs is the best way to avoid the expensive price tag but to also keep your employees safe and to keep production going.

What type of program do you currently have in place to keep your employees safe? You need to focus on creating a training program that will keep your staff safe as you are able to be sure they understand how to run the equipment and other things to do their jobs effectively. You also want to take the time to have all the equipment examined by professionals to have them perform routine maintenance on them and other things. This is a great way to check on the status of your equipment so you can upgrade it and to be sure it's working correctly. Preventing foreseeable accidents is vital to your company and to the wellbeing of your employees.
