Healthy relationships provide healthier employees

Healthy relationship are vital to your well-being and you can encourage your staff members to work on building office relationships that will be able to create a productive working environment. Not all relationships in our lives are romantic ones. The relationships in the workplace are all built on friendships along with sharing similar interests and of course sharing in the same type of work.

Some of the best ways to focus on building healthier relationships in the office has to do with the following key ingredients:
1. Trust - your employees must be able to trust one another. You want your employees to be able to rely on one another and to feel as though they can tell their co-workers anything without it being released to everyone else in the company. Trust is also developed when you and your employees are able to help each other and to complete "your end of the deal" when it comes to work and other projects. Having trust in your co-workers is key to building good relationships with them and to hopefully create life-long friendships with them as well.
2. Consideration - similar to trust you need to be considerate of your co-workers. Consideration is not only being nice to the people you work with but it also comes down to respecting their space, respecting their time and pulling your own weight. Keep your area clean and organized so that your co-workers will be able to gather information that they need from you if you aren't in the office. Consideration is having mutual respect and realizing that you are teammates and that you are all going to work together and not apart from one another.
3. Help your co-workers - you need to be a person that offers to help. Offering to help your co-workers is one of the best ways to make stronger relationships with them and to develop mutual respect for each other. It will also give you a desire to actually want to show up to work each day because you appreciate all the people you are around. When you offer to help others, they will one day return the favor to you and this is always appreciative if you do have a large deadline suddenly arise or something else happens and you need help.
4. Respect - this is one of the best things you need to develop in the office to have healthy working relationships. Everyone needs to respect the skills and talents they have. Respect will help you to build friendships but it also helps you to make a name for yourself in the company as well. Your other staff members will see the contributions you make to the company and they will be able to show you the respect that you desire. However you need to show respect to your co-workers if you expect to get it from them in return.
5. Communication - many office relationships are damaged because employees failed to communicate correctly. There are times when a joke is sent in an email and someone gets offended by it. There are other times where silence by one person is misinterpreted as "the cold shoulder" or other things. You need to make sure you are properly communicating with your co-workers and to be sure that everything is in order and you aren't misunderstood.

There are many other things that will aid in proper office relationships but these 5 tips can help you get started. Remember to have an open personality and be friendly to your co-workers. As you do this they will have a desire to be around you more and it will help you create stronger working relationships.
