What occurs when you have employees that are not in good health? They often take time off work and decrease the productivity for your company along with causing you to have a number of other issues from morale struggles to a loss in overall financial profitability. It is important that you take the time to review issues that can cause accidents in the workplace along with causing other concerns as well. Employers need to be aware of what their responsibilities are as an employer and it is important that you learn how to focus on proper training of your staff so you can reduce illnesses and other issues.

Take a look at the reasons why people miss work. Some miss it due to accident where others will miss it due to general head colds and other things like this. Proper cleaning of the workplace can reduce the spread of germs and may be able to help cut down on how many people are getting ill and need to miss work.

To assist in reducing germs in the workplace, always make sure the office is kept clean. Do you have sanitary wipes that the employees can use to clean their offices? Certain areas are prone to attracting germs like doorknobs, keyboards, phones, and copiers. You always want to have these areas properly sanitized. Try to allow plenty of fresh air into the building. Circulating fresh air through the building will also be able to provide you with healthier employees as they are not breathing in air that has a lot of dust or air that is filled with germs.

Have the ventilation system in your building checked on and cleaned yearly if not more. This is an essential part of helping to keep your staff healthy and well as they will be able to breathe in air that is healthier for them. Air purifiers are a smart investment in the winter months as you won't be able to open the windows as much to allow for the fresh air to come in.

Proper safety training is another thing that you need to consider doing in order to help your employees. You always need to take the time to properly educate your staff about the dangers of running certain equipment in the workplace as well as educating them about the risks in their particular job. As long as you follow procedures of signage and correct training, you can dramatically reduce the risk to your staff and can easily prevent a number of accidents from occurring.

What is your policy for sick leave? Do you have a lot of people using sick leave in the same way as vacation time? Some employers ask for doctors notes if they have an employee state they are calling in sick to go to the doctor. There isn't a right or wrong method to sick leave abuse but it is important that you do encourage your sick employees to stay at home so they do not bring the germs to the workplace. If you notice a trend in sick leave and employee absences, you need to speak to your employees about it. There will be issues with employee morale soon if you do not call out your employees that are abusing the sick leave policy.

Have you considered introducing a workplace wellness program? These programs are effective and provide a significant return for most companies that end up implementing them.
