Creating a sister company to compliment your existing small business

womenwatchingcomputer16486846.jpg
Many small businesses rely on other businesses for supplies or services in order to operate. At first, reliance on these other companies is a necessity; however, as a small business begins to establish itself, they may see benefits in creating a sister company to compliment their existing business. Just like when a business owner begins their first business, business owners will need to acquire the proper licenses and understand the laws that apply to such an action. When undertaking this endeavor, small businesses should be sure to cover their bases.

Business Plan

Even though the original business has an existing business plan, the business owner will need to modify it to take into account the sister company. They will also need to create a new business plan for the sister company. Wise business owners will also layout exactly how the two businesses will work with each other. This will ensure that the transition from existing suppliers is a smooth one. Also, if the sister company is going to have a different president than the owner of the original business, they will need to make sure each is on the same page.

When to lease versus buy equipment for your small business

cleaningmachines24240393.jpg
Many small business owners struggle with the decision to lease or buy their business equipment. Business equipment can be very expensive. There are pro's and con's to doing either one depending on your circumstances. Find out what is best for your business by taking a look at when to lease versus when to buy equipment for your small business.

Why should you buy? Here are the benefits:

Buying equipment is easy
You find what you want and need and then you just buy it! Leasing will require paperwork and questions like: how and where you are going to use your equipment. When you buy your equipment, you can use it where and how you please.

You can do maintenance your way
When buying, you can run and maintain your equipment in the ways you want to. If you lease the equipment, the leasing company will have you do maintenance on the equipment their way. This can get very expensive with their specifications.

Tax breaks
Your equipment is a tax deductible. When buying equipment, you can deduct the full price of it. When leasing, you can only deduct the monthly payments.

What groundwork needs to be done when starting a small business

Small business can be really rewarding and lucrative, but they also require a lot of work at the beginning. In fact, many people have been to intimidated by all of the groundwork that needs to be done when starting a small business that they have decided to forget their idea altogether. The truth is, there is a lot of groundwork that needs to be done. In order to make your small business successful, you will need to make sure that all of your "ducks are in a row" before you go ahead and shoot! In other words, you shouldn't jump into starting a small business unless you are financially and mentally prepared for the challenges that lay ahead. Here is some of the groundwork that needs to be done when starting a small business:

1. Research the market: One of the most important parts of groundwork that needs to be done when starting a small business is research! If you have a great idea for a small business, you first need to make sure that there is enough demand for your product or service to keep you in business! There are a couple of ways that you can research the market for your business. One of the ways to research your business is to look on the internet. You might even be able to find case studies about your market on the internet. If you can't find a lot of information or good ideas there, then you might want to hire a case study team to go and survey people for you. This way, you will be able to have a good idea if your small business will have any success at all! In addition, a case study can help you to figure out where it is best for your business to be located, as well as possibly determine the best target audience for your small business.

A poorly constructed and supported board of directors can be huge negative for a company while a successful board of directors can contribute hugely to the overall success of the company. Here are 10 factors to consider when choosing a board of directors for your business:

The composition of the board: In a typical venture-capital backed company, the board consists of members of the management team, including the CEO, representatives of venture capital investors and independent outside directors. Going Public: The Process for Small and Mid-size Companies to Go Public

It’s the dream of every person who starts a business to some day see it trading in one of the stock exchanges even after they are no longer associated with the company. The first step (#1) is simple since most small company are already incorporated and have a board of directors, so we will start with #2.

Step. #2. Engage a consultant but not before doing a background check. This is a must because the consultant who is supposed to be working for you may be the very person to destroy your dream.

Simply type the consultants name in Google and if nothing comes up, try the brokerage firm they were last associated with, to find out if they have been disciplined, or convicted of some crime by the Securities and Exchange Commission or some other regulatory body.

Many individuals when barred from participating in any securities transaction or from acting as consultants still do so in a stealth manner. Hoping that you will be impressed with their sales pitch and not bother looking into their background.

The reason most consultants do not have websites is because they do not want the regulators to find out that they are involved in stock market related activities.

Starting an Image Consulting Business

You might have seen them while watching TV shows such as Extreme Makeover, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, or What Not to Wear. Or you might have heard that Martha Stewart needed them to give her advice on how to look sympathetic to a jury.

We're talking about Image Consultants, and they have one of the hottest new businesses today.

Also known by such titles as wardrobe consultant, fashion stylist, or makeover consultant, image consultants are paid to show people how to create a fabulous impression. They might recommend wearing different colors or new styles, go through closets to toss out clothing that isn’t working, shop for a new wardrobe, and put together incredible outfits. They might advise a change of hairstyle, makeup, or grooming.

However, image is more than physical appearance. In addition to how someone looks, we also form impressions based on how someone talks and behaves. So image consultants may also advise people on their vocal communication (voice, grammar, vocabulary, etc.), non-verbal communication (handshakes, posture, eye contact, etc.) and etiquette – from dining to cell phones.

Most image consultants also develop a network of strategic partners they can refer clients to, such as hair stylists, makeup artists, nutritionists, dentists, personal trainers, plastic surgeons, and voice coaches.

Launch a New Business on Any Budget

A recent survey revealed that 40% of American workers have considered starting a business, but many fail to pursue their dreams due to funding constraints. While there are people who invest thousands of dollars to launch their businesses, there are just as many businesses that were started with just a few hundred dollars and some ingenuity.

Michael Simmons, the founder of Kinko’s, rented a space the size of a closet near a college and started his business with a few spiral notebooks and a single copy machine. If he had waited until he had enough saved up to open a 4000 square foot store, he might be an accountant right now.

Consider This

You may have a vision of a giant store, warehouse or internet operation but if your funds are low, it can seem like a pipe dream. But a sagging bank account doesn’t have to stop you before you even get started. Consider launching your business on a smaller scale. In fact, launching your business on a smaller scale can have many advantages. It allows you time to test your market and evaluate your price point. You may want to try different methods and pricing strategies to see what works. Since your investment is minimal, you can make some mistakes without ending up financially devastated.

It takes some creativity to build any successful business, and creativity is entirely free. Talk to friends and people in the business community that you trust to get some ideas for getting your product in the marketplace. Here are ten possibilities to consider:

A Reality Check Is Necessary Before Starting A Home Business

I have helped thousands of people start up their own home based businesses using the Internet. Over time, I have come to recognize two of the most important factors for identifying people that should NOT start a home based business.

If a prospective entrepreneur says something like...

"I'm broke and need to make some money...fast!"

or,

"I want to start a home business, but I don't want to spend anything on it until after I start earning some money."

...it is certain that they have not "gotten real" and should not attempt to start a home business under either of those conditions. I refer to them as the "death sentences" for starting a home based business.

Almost equally important is the need to have realistic economic expectations when undertaking a home based business. There is no magic here, folks. A home based business provides many rewards such as working in the comfort of your own home, avoiding a stressful commute, being your own boss, setting your own hours, no dress code, etc., etc., but anyone that is also expecting "instant riches" is sadly mistaken.

Getting Started in Home Business

If you're like most people, it's hard to make ends meet with just one income. If you are married, both partners must work, spending countless thousands of dollars on childcare and business clothes. To offset their monetary deficit, many people are looking into getting started in their own home business. Both full-time and part-time home businesses can be operated from the comfort of your own home.

Some people are making extra money to pay for extras, while others have turned their home business into a primary source of income. Some people use their home business as a diversion, to have fun and earn a little "pocket money." The important thing is that they are taking positive action, rather than waiting for a financial disaster. They are setting the stage to improve their lives - something you can do too.

Multi-level marketing, mail order businesses and other in-home businesses are very popular. If this way of earning extra income appeals to you, by all means check out the possibilities. These are not the only ways you can operate from home. There are many ways of getting started in your own home business that you should investigate.

Some other ways of getting started in your own home business include on-line businesses such as a typing service, ghost writing for others, creating ad copy, dating services, credit counselling service, producing how-to DVD's or videos on various topics, preparing resumes, etc. In reality, the options for getting started in your own home business are almost unlimited.

Start-up Capital

Successfully Meeting And Greeting - Ten Strategies For Getting Off To A Good Start

A day in the life of every businessperson is made up of a series of meetings and greetings. Whether you are making the initial contact with a client or a colleague, you want to get off on the right foot. Doing so will make the first encounter and subsequent ones go smoothly and easily. Getting off on the wrong foot can make for a difficult recovery. Save your energy for later and use these simple strategies for a successful start

1. Stand up when you meet someone. This allows you to engage the person on an equal level -eye to eye. By remaining seated, you send a message that you don't think the other person is important enough to warrant the effort it takes to stand. If you find yourself in a position where you can't stand up (such as being trapped behind a potted plant) offer an apology and an explanation. You might say something like, "Please excuse me for not getting up. I can't seem to get around the foliage."

2. Smile. Your facial expression says more than your words. Look as if you are pleased to meet the other person regardless of what is on your mind. Put a smile on your face for the person standing before you.

3. Make eye contact. Looking at the people you meet says you are focused and interested in them. If you are staring off somewhere else, you may appear to be looking for someone more to your liking to come along.

Are You SURE You Want To Start Your Own Business? Part Two of a Series

Why, exactly, do you want to go into business for yourself?

* Is it because you cannot stand the thought of working for an uptight, demanding, and perfectly dreadful boss?

* Is it because you cannot bear the thought of going through another downsizing or restructuring, knowing that your job could be on the line?

* Is it because you want to be your own boss, call your own shots, or see more up side in your earning potential, with the possibility of financial self-sufficiency?
These are all good reasons for wanting to go into business. In fact, studies have shown that many entrepreneurs get their start due to some life-altering experience such as losing a job or finally walking away from a dead-end job or a demoralizing work environment.

It is amazing how creative, resourceful, and innovative you can be when, finally, you reach the edge and find yourself in a survival situation professionally. In times like this, the entrepreneurial spirit comes alive and you figure out that you can simply do it on your own.

The Benefits of Starting A Home-Based Business

The U.S economy continues to grow and corporations are enjoying large profits, but the majority of Americans still struggle with finances. This is one of the main reasons many people are looking into the benefits that a home-based business can offer. There is no stressful morning commute, extremely low overhead, fewer restrictions, and few or no employees. Many laws don't apply to small businesses with no employees or only a small number of employees. It has been estimated that 95% of home based businesses are successful their first year with an average income of over $50,000. The general benefits of starting a home based business are many when you consider the tax advantages, money making potential, and savings on transportation and clothing.

Small businesses, including home-based businesses, receive numerous tax advantages. They can deduct their home, spouse and children (if you employ them), business vacations, cars, and business meals. You can even set up a pension plan while operating a home-based business. In addition, any losses you incur can be tax deductible and may even be refunded by the IRS, depending on your particular circumstances. To make your home-based business a success, you need to determine the factors that make one business succeed and another identical business to fail. Taking the incorrect actions can mean a failed home based business. Wanting the benefits of a home based business but taking no action at all surely means failure as well.

Successful Home Business Start Up

Starting a business takes a great deal of work and dedication. In many cases, would-be entrepreneurs fail to fully research and plan a home business start up. Here are four recommendations for a successful home business start-up.

Choosing the "Best" Home Business:

Deciding to work at home is the easy part. Its deciding what to do that is difficult. Most people start looking for something fast and easy, and only end up losing money and getting discouraged. Instead, would-be entrepreneurs should start with start with self-evaluation. What do you like to do? What are you good at? What interests do you have? What limitations will have you in choosing a business (i.e. can you have customers in your home or will you travel to meet them)?

Once you have a better sense of what you would like to do, what you are willing to do, or what qualities are needed in a home business to meet your goals, you can then begin to consider different home business ideas. Researching and evaluating each idea carefully is vitally important. It may seem like a great idea to turn a hobby into a business but you must consider whether or not you want to turn something you enjoy doing into something you HAVE to do.

The Emotional Highs & Lows When Starting A Home Based Business

The emotional aspects of starting a home business can have you experiencing high highs and low lows. In addition to the immediate luxuries of being your own boss, setting your own working hours, and avoiding a stressful commute, there are also significant things on the other side of the ledger...starting and building a home business is not just an automatic trip to the promised land.

The need for self discipline is important...since you don't have a boss and a place to report for work, it is now up to you to schedule your time and perform productive tasks on your own.

Set actual work hours. Decide what hours you are going to work each day and stick to it as much as possible. This is one of the beautiful things about a home based business...you get to make this choice based upon your own personal situation for that particular day.

Make "to do" lists for each day. Then, as you complete the items, check them off the list. You can transfer anything you don't get done on a particular day to the next days list and make some notation so that you can see that it is a carryover from the previous day...however, remain constantly aware of the procrastination trap which leads you to keep putting things off until tomorrow. Hopefully, this will help you to stay organized and on task and allow you to make some real progress in developing your home based business.

Getting Started with an Online Business with No Money

If you want to get started with an online business without risking any money but you have time to spend then this report will show you one way to do that.

Basically the best way to earn without making any investment is to promote somebody else's product for commission and that is the method we will discuss today.

I will use our affiliate program in the example process that I outline below, we take affiliates from anywhere in the world and this process can be operated anywhere in the world. The process will work equally well with hundreds and thousands of other affiliate programs.

Step one is to join an affiliate program that pays at two levels i.e. a 2 tier program. Our sign up page can be found at www.themoneyseed.com/affiliate .

When you join you should get your own link to the main site where the sales process starts for that site and also a link for recruiting new affiliates. You can usually use the main link for affiliates also but there may be a link that takes the visitor straight to the affiliate sign up page.

Once you have a link you should do the following:

1. Add a signature to your emails, this will mean that every mail you send will have a tag line at the bottom which, in this case, will promote the service that you are affiliated with.

A Reality Check...The Necessary First Step Before Starting A Home Business

How to Choose a Name for Your Business

Choosing a name for your business is important. Select it carefully.

Be sure the name fits these criteria:

. Indicate what kind of business you are in.
. Easy to remember.
. Distinctive - stand out from your competition.
. Catch the client's attention.
. Create a professional image.
. Inspire clients to buy from you.

Which of these has more appeal? HyperTyper or Judy's Word processing? "HyperTyper" tells what Gloria does. Not only does she type, but she types fast. Many people have commented they choose Gloria's services because of her business name.

A Promotional Tool

The right name is an effective advertising tool. If the name doesn't describe the nature of your business, potential clients may not realize that you offer something they need.

Choose a simple name your clients will be able to remember, pronounce, and spell. They have to remember your business name to look you up in the phone book or call information when they lost your phone number. For example -- Which of these is easier to remember: "Bob's Graphics," or "La Sécretere Rapide?

Beware The Newbie Syndrome

Hardly a week goes by when I don't get a call from an on-line beginner, a "newbie," who wants to consult with me on their business concept. Often, they haven't started building a website, so they've reached me at the perfect point in the process. Very often they're really excited by the possibilities that they see, and the ideas that they're generating.

I'm sure, at this point, all of the sage old-timers are sitting their nodding. We were the same way when we first started out. We somehow starting looking to the Internet as the answer to how we could earn some extra income or as a way to escape from our old JOB. When we started looking around the Internet at what was offered our heads started spinning.

To the newbie reading this, I'm no way making fun of you. I earn part of my living from teaching you, so I have the utmost respect for you. In fact, if you take a look at the obvious, big successes in "Internet Marketing" today, you will notice that many of them are relative newbies. Some, like Yanik Silver or Alex Mandossian, seem to have come from nowhere. Actually, both of these guys have very solid foundations in direct marketing, so when they hit the Internet they only needed to apply what they knew from the offline world.

Some companies pay you for sending them leads.Others pay only when the visitor that you send them makes a purchase.

How to join an affliate program

Most of the time all you have to do is provide your contact information and agree to the company's terms and conditions. Some companies will charge you a small fee to get started.

How to Start Your Own Business When Franchising is Cost-Prohibitive

When some folks begin to think about a business of their own, they know in that very moment what kind they are going to start.

Then, there are the rest of us...

Knowing that we want to have a business of our own is not enough. Many of us have struggled with the important question of what type of enterprise we would like to start.

Franchises offer a simple pre-packaged money making idea, but the cost of a franchise often makes it a prohibitive option to most folks who contemplate going out on their own.

For those who do not have a million dollars to buy a McDonalds franchise, we must look to other ideas for our own business.

Resources for Starting an Online Business

Anyone trying to start an Online business needs to have a number of resources before it is possible to build and promote a successful website. The following are essential tools that I have found very valuable.

1) Wordtracker

Before you build a website you must target the correct keywords, otherwise you will not have the necessary traffic to run a business. You may have a good niche but if you optimise your pages for the wrong keywords, you will attract little traffic.

And without traffic on the Net, you have no business! Wordtracker is an excellent tool that evaluates keywords for their profitability. A free trial version is available.

You Don't Need to Be A Genius to Make More Money

If you dream of making more money or starting your own business, please continue reading, I am fairly certain you will really enjoy this article. I recently read an ebook on different ways to make money and not only found it informative but it caused me to really brainstorm on different money making ideas. The author of the ebook is Wayne Yeager and titled "1000 Ways to Make Money". With over 200+ pages of different money making ideas, I found most of the ideas are practical and easy ways to earn money but there are also several ideas that are a little more complex and risky. There is something for everyone here from the beginning entrepreneur to the crafty veteran business owner and everyone in between.

The only minor critique about his book I can make is some of the ideas are not really applicable to everyone. In fairness, Mr. Yeager discusses this exact critique in the opening page. Fortunately, with 1000 ideas, there are bound to be numerous ideas and opportunities applicable to every reader.

Fixin' to Get Ready: Getting Past "GO"

Here in Kentucky we spend a lot of time "fixin' to get ready."

For those of you not familiar with the phrase, let me give you some context:

Picture a southern man, sitting on couch, watching NASCAR. His wife comes into the room. "Honey, are you going to fix that loose porch step today?"

"Sure hon'", he replies, "I'm fixin' to get ready."

Then he goes back to the race.

A few weeks (or months) later, he finally fixes the step (usually after his mother comes to visit and complains about it!)

One of the hardest parts of starting a web business is actually getting started. Taking the actions. Sticking to a plan.

Here are some ways you can "get past go" in your own web business:

The Last Piece of Chocolate Ever - Business Tips for the Silver Set

INTRODUCTION

Right now I am playing a game that I have played ever since I was a kid. (I just took another drink of milk). When I got a box of chocolates as a gift, I would grab a whole container of milk and run into my room with the box. I would then try to make the milk last for the entire box, trying hard not to run out of milk before the last piece of chocolate, or run out of chocolate before the last bit of milk. To this day I wonder if I had more fun playing the balancing game than I did actually eating the chocolate. I do know one thing. Sometimes the game distracted me from the delicious taste of the chocolate and I do regret that.

What does any of this have to do with being in business or becoming an entrepreneur? Plenty, so bear with me a few paragraphs more.

Internet Yellow Page Ads – Are They Worth a Try?

Most small businesses do not yet advertise on the internet. But with the undeniable growth in internet traffic, it's only a matter of time before many businesses will need to consider online advertising.

Everyone is familiar with the traditional Yellow Pages phone book. Less familiar is the internet extension of the print book – the hodgepodge of advertising options that can loosely be termed Internet Yellow Pages (IYP). A range of companies are jumping on the IYP bandwagon, all chasing the elusive, and thus far unmaterialized, local advertising dollars. Companies like Verizon, with their SuperPages directory, or like Yahoo!, with their Yahoo! "Get Local" directory, and assorted publishers of print telephone directories, are all players in the IYP field. Basically, they all offer variations on a basic theme: the structured, directory-like indexing of information on the internet, with added features unknown in the print books, such as mapping, keyword searching, and website links.

The most compelling reason for a website owner to advertise on IYP is the increasing consumer usage of the internet for finding local products and services.
