Do you have a workplace that is safe and healthy for your employees to work in? If you do not have a workplace that is healthy and safe, you will be in violation of OSHA policies and you need to be prepared for lawsuits and other issues as people will not hesitate to sue you if they are injured at your workplace. How can employers step up and really provide a safe and healthy working environment for their staff? Here are some of the things that you can do in order to make for a great environment:

- Minimize hazards. You need to have a plan of action against the hazards that you see in the workplace. You need to get rid of anything that seems dangerous and to make sure that things are properly marked if there are hazards. Signage can prevent a lot of issues and serious accidents from happening.
- Behavior-based safety training. Some of the workplace accidents that happen are related to the way in which people are doing their jobs. When people are not following procedures and they are doing their own thing, you need to be concerned. People can put themselves in harm's way quickly if they are not following company training and procedures that you have established. Implementing a behavior based safety training program is great as you can view people in their settings to see what they are doing correctly and what needs to be addressed. This is great as it helps your employees to be aware of things and not just thinking they are doing it right when they are not.
- Clear policies. You always need to make sure that you have a clear policy when it comes to your health and safety program. It is important that you have clear policies on all of the different things that your employees need to follow. Some people will not know what to do in the event of an emergency that happens. Having a safety plan is one of the most important policies that you will create for your company. People need to know what to do in the event of a fire and you also need to make sure that you practice with your employees often so they know what to do. When people can think clearly during an emergency situation, it can prevent additional accidents from happening and can help to keep your company safe.
- Appoint a safety committee. One way to help prevent injuries during certain times is by appointing a safety committee for your staff. This way you will know that everyone is accounted for in the event of an emergency as the safety committee each has a particular number of employees that they will be responsible for and will count to make sure no one is left behind.

There are other things that you can do in order to raise awareness pertaining to health and safety in the workplace. Some people will end up implementing things like motion sensor lights as they will light up dark rooms to identify hazards. This is a great way to prevent accidents. Proper job rotation is also great as people are less likely to get tired if they are moving around often and they are changing areas of their job so they aren't doing the same thing for several hours at a time.

Proper training will also go a long way in accident prevention and the health of your staff. Take the time to train your employees so they know what to expect and what type of risks they may end up dealing with. The more people know, the easier it will be to keep them safe and to get production up!
