Health Promotion In The Workplace
When you are creating a wellness program it is helpful to start by asking the employees what type of things they may appreciate in the program. Everyone has different needs and it helps to know what your employees will see as valuable as it's likely different from the issues you think they have. Plus when you involve your employees in the process, it will give them a sense of ownership in the program and they will feel great about their participation in the program due to it. Here are some of the common areas that you need to focus on when you are looking into proper health promotion in the workplace: The goal is not only to see your bottom line increase but it is to actually raise awareness about these issues to your employees. When people can see that they have actual health problems, it can help them to actually pay attention to them and to start making a difference in their health and caring for their body. The other nice thing is that it shows the employees that the company is invested in them and they want only good things for their employees. A big component to wellness programs will focus on the prevention of these issues in general. Far too often you have people that are not aware of how soda can destroy their health and they continue to do it. When you remove the temptation like soda from the workplace, you can promote health to your staff. This is a great way to really boost the overall morale of the company and to encourage your staff to be healthier and to give up their addictions to unhealthy substances. One area that often gets overlooked when you are dealing with health promotion is the mental health of your staff. How often do you take time to discuss stress, depression, and manic disorders? If you notice that you have staff members with these issues, you need to invest in them and do all that you can to help them. Some ways in which you can assist your employees with their mental health concerns include the following: Including 15 minutes of free time in the workday can help people with depression and other mental health issues as they can go outside and enjoy the sun for a few minutes and just to have a break from the stress that their jobs can bring. Getting a much needed break from work can really help a lot of people to feel better and to have more control over their mental health concerns. |
