More and morebusiness owners are seeing the importance of promoting the health of their employees. They understand that when their employees are healthy they are far more likely to be productive and not cost the business as much money. However, despite these good intentions there are still many mistakes being made in the area of employee health. Whether intentional or unintentional these mistakes can actually damage the health of your employees despite your best actions to improve it. The good news is that when you know what these mistakes are you can take steps to correct them and improve employee health. Here are some mistakes that can lead to poor employee health-

- Confusion in the company-Studies have recently found that when there is a high degree of stress within a business the employees are generally less healthy then their less stressed counterparts. This confusion and stress can come from lack of job descriptions, poor communication, lack of training, and lack of connection between management and staff. When your employees don't know what they are supposed to be doing or are unable to get their questions answered this can lead to health problems. Taking the time to better organize your company, train all employees, and provide job descriptions can actually help everyone who works for you achieve better health.
- Poor safety policies-Whether you are a the owner of a brand new business or one that has been around for awhile it can be easy to overlook safety policies. However, if you are really interested in promoting your employees health you will make their safety a priority, as well. The key to having better safety within your business is training. You should make it a point that everyone who works for you is totally familiar with the safety procedures that they should be following. If you need safety signage, protective equipment, or some other component to keep your employees safer you should get it today. Keep in mind that not only are safety procedures important for employee health they can also save you a great deal of money. Accidents and on the job injuries can be extremely costly and can be avoided with the right safety policies.
- Dirty work spaces-If your business is dirty it can literally be making your employees sick. In an attempt to save money many business owners have cut out using their cleaning staff and turned the cleaning over to their employees. This is never really a good idea. Your employees will most likely resent being asked to clean and most will only do enough to get by. Keep in mind that a professional janitorial staff will use antibacterial cleaners that will keep your business much more clean and healthy for your employees. While it is important to keep costs under control this is not the way to do it. There are many effective cleaning services that offer a range of prices. You should shop around until you find the one that provides you with the services you need for a price you can afford. Everyone who works in your business will benefit with better health.
- Not enough space to work in-Few businesses have the luxury of having to much space but if you don't have enough space for your employees to work in it can be affecting their health. If your employees are crowded together there could be ventilation problems that mean shared germs. In addition, a lack of space could mean that your employees don't have enough room to view computer screens safely, have the right ergonomics at their desk, or just feel stressed from crowded conditions. Taking the time to reorient space or add more if possible can go a long way toward promoting better employee health.
