Reduce the spread of germs

Working in an office can lead to an increase of germs. People bring them in from all over and individuals that have sick children are likely to fall ill and bring those germs to the office. Since germs are a natural part of our lives our bodies do have defense systems but when you are dealing with a lot of germs and the entire office seems to get sick, you are likely to become ill as well. It is important to do what you can to reduce the spread of germs and to try your best to keep your office as healthy as possible. When people are always sick and it spreads in the office it will lead to a decrease in productivity and employee morale. It can be frustrating as a manager to constantly get phone calls from sick employees and know that you will need to shuffle things around in order to get the work done.

Look for a janitorial service that will do more than empty trash bins and vacuum the floors, you need to hire a company that will actually sterilize the office. This means they will use germ-killing cleaning solutions and they will spray down the areas that are prone to germs like the doorknobs and phones. You need to meet with the cleaning company and provide them with instructions on what you want cleaned and how it needs to be done. Make sure you check up on them once and awhile to see that the job is getting done. Even if you need to pay for more this "deep cleaning" service, it will be worth it to help keep your staff healthier.

If you are a smaller company and you are in charge of the cleaning services, you need to consider writing up a list of all the areas that are frequently used so you can keep them cleaner and prevent the spread of germs. These areas will likely include the kitchen and bathroom areas. Always clean out the refrigerators weekly and make sure the bathrooms are cleaned daily. Continual cleaning of these public areas can cut down on the spread of germs. Look at other areas that are touched often like the drinking fountain, sink, doorknobs, and phones as they can be holders of a lot of germs. Sterilizing these areas will allow you to reduce the spread of germs and can help to keep your staff healthier. If you have a smaller office like this, you need to give each employee time to clean their areas. Allot 15 minutes at the end of the day to cleaning of the office. This will be plenty of time for them to clean their work areas and to help contribute to the cleaning of other areas as well like the vacuuming of the office or mopping of the bathroom.

Sometimes people like to eat at their desks. This can lead to germs from the crumbs that may accumulate. Talk to your employees about proper cleaning procedures so they don't leave crumbs behind for the germs to start. You should always provide a breakroom to your staff so they have somewhere to eat and a room where food items can be stored so that they don't cause a smell in the office or lead to germs and spills happening in a professional area.

Consider adding some antibacterial hand wipes to your office and also lotions as this can cut down on germs. If you have a sick employee, ask them to wear a mask and make sure that they are sterilizing their workplace so they don't end up spreading the germs around.
