Stave off obesity and encourage wellness in the office where most work is done sitting at a desk. Promote these tips for keeping employees fit and happy.

Healthy Food At The Table
Conference tables are often decorated with donuts and coffee. Change the way meetings are run with different foods. Offer vegetables and fruits instead of salty, processed nuts. Switch out pastries with sandwiches on whole grain bread.
Breakfast is crucial for starting the day off right. Metabolism begins working with breakfast, so offer a healthy one. Bring natural orange juice. Forgo the coffee that is full of caffeine. Caffeine is a drug that can hurt the heart. It is often over-consumed in the office. Offer low-fat milk and whole grain baked crackers with cheese.
No Coffee For You
Instead of free coffee and hot cocoa, offer free herbal tea and water. Herbal tea clears out the sinuses and serves as a mature way to boost energy. Energy drinks contain all kinds of sugar and caffeine. Do not serve these in vending machines.
Soda pop should be replaced with water and low sodium, low calorie, low sugar drinks. This may seem impossible to find, but many drinks fit this description. Do a little research to see what is tasty and good for the body.
Quick Meals
Often, vending machines are the answer to someone staying late at work. Once the cafeteria has closed and lunch is gone the only choices left may be candy or chips. Do not let this happen to your coworkers. Load up machines with healthy choices that actually serve as meals. Offer apples and granola. New York schools recently mandated that all campus vending machines be filled with only these items. Use the research that went into school systems for your own employees.
Chips and candy are full of empty calories, so more junk is needed to satisfy a stomach. They are also loaded with fats and sugars that destroy teeth. Promote good teeth health with fresh sandwiches and real foods. Contract out the vending machines to local businesses that will fill it with healthy items.
Mouth Health
An often-overlooked part of the body is the inside of the mouth. Prevent visits to the dentist and medical bills paid by the company. Offer seminars, emails, or brochures on tooth health. Teach the following:
- Brush teeth after every meal, or at least twice daily
- Clean teeth after eating acidic or sticky foods, like candy and pineapple
- Ask your dentist if you should take fortifying fluoride tablets
- See your dentist for regular check ups
- Do not snack during the day without brushing
- Floss daily
- Avoid carbohydrates that break down quickly to rot teeth
Party Like A Health Star
There is no need to serve foods high in calories and fat at company picnics and parties. Leave out the cookies and brownies. Serve vegetable platters and beautiful fruit trays. These will add color and decoration to the party. Also avoid too much red meat during meals. Half of each meal should be vegetables, and the rest should be a lean protein and whole grain. Show employees that the company cares about their health.
Avoid serving alcohol at parties, too. Alcohol causes drunken driving deaths and liver and pancreas destruction. Do not add to any problems employees may be facing with drug addictions. Class up the company party and keep it family-friendly by serving sparkling cider and virgin drinks.
