Three Tips For Promoting Wellness At Work

A healthy employee is a happy employee. This is the mantra of today's workplace where thousands of Americans live out their lives. Hopefully your job brings joy to your life. Reasons that you may not be satisfied in your career may have to do with your health. Those who sit at a desk each day can become lazy or depressed.

The number one cure to such feelings of hopelessness is a good wellness program. Wellness is more than health. It is living a balanced life. Promote this kind of living so that your office can be a place of sanctuary and peace.
These tips will help get employees ready to conquer an area of their life outside of work that can affect their work a great deal: their health.
1. Advocate Good Eating
A big part of wellness is what you put into your body. The problem is that much of the food funneling through this country's offices is processed and full of bad substances. So take away certain foods from your office environment and add others for a good start to optimal health.
Kill the machines! Vending machines, that is. Rather than tearing out all unhealthy vending machines in the building, though, simply replace what is in them.
Take out the salty chips, sugary soda pops, and candy of death. Install apples, other fruits, real fruit juice that is low in sugar, low fat milk, and sandwiches made with whole wheat bread.
New York school districts recently mandated a huge change to campus vending machines. All vending machines there now only sell apples, granola, and a few other healthy snacks. Follow suit at your place of work. Feed your heart and your belly with better choices.
One option is to strike a deal with neighboring health eateries. Allow them to fill machines with fresh produce and sandwiches and salads and you can make a bit of the profit. Many people turn to these food receptacles when stuck at work or too busy to go out for lunch. Bring these people happiness with real food that is easy to attain.
2. Reduce The Stress
Teach stress management skills. Make sure that there is enough staff for the projects at hand. Certain times of year are generally busier than others. Plan to have the right amount of support.
Some projects can wait until the busy season is over. Let these tasks wait. It is better to save your employees than to overload them and inflict illness.
Offer nightly yoga classes or hand out pamphlets with stretching techniques to be done at the desk. Keeping moving can help take the focus off of the impending doom of deadlines.
3. Let Them Run!
Exercise can help reduce stress, prevent disease, and open up the way to the sunshine of daily happiness. Promote exercise in any of these ways:
- Hold a seminar to teach about the importance of fitness. Many people just forget about working out because they have so much on their plate. Remind them that aerobic exercise and strength training wards off future disease and ailment.

- Stick a small gym inside the office. Find a room that can be reallocated to hold elliptical and weight lifting machines. This provides easy access to better living.

- In place of holiday gifts or weak raffle prizes at office parties, give the gift of health. Offer gym memberships, health magazine subscriptions, pedometers, and gift certificates to health food stores and sporting goods shops. Employees living the sedentary lifestyle are sure to appreciate these kinds of gifts that they can actually use.
These steps to wellness will help employees take control of their health, leading to peace and happiness throughout the company.
