Tips For Facilitating Good Employee Diets

Staying busy at work is easy. There's always so much to do with meeting, projects, and deadlines. Often health takes a secondary role as a priority in life. It may seem like there is simply not enough time and energy left to think about eating right. Many feel this way. Help employees get a good start to wellness with these healthy tips for the office.

Education Is The Key
Wise is the man who said, "Knowledge is power." Empower your employees with tips on staying healthy. Go over health plans offered by the company. It can be beneficial to make sure each worker has the best plan for himself. Often multiple plans are offered but people do not really understand how co-pays work. Break the company into groups for question and answer sessions.
This is a great time to let people know what is included in benefits packages. Often dental and medical plans are included, as are sick days and certain programs.
Dental Package
Corporate pays less for dental coverage when employees are taking good care of themselves. Teach these techniques:
- Brush your teeth after snacks and meals
- Drink water with fluoride to protect the teeth
- Floss and use mouthwash to kill germs lurking in the cracks
- Avoid sugary, sticky foods
- Eat fewer carbohydrates, which break down into sugars
Medical Plan
Exercise supplements a good health plan. Encourage working up a sweat for 20 minutes at least 3 to 5 days a week. What really helps with this is providing health memberships or installing a mini gym in a free room within the office building. Some Weight training and aerobics machines are ideal. You can even hire a trainer for a couple of hours each day to teach classes. Lunch breaks may be spent getting in shape instead of loading up on food.
Give The Gift Of Health
When the time comes for bonuses and gifts, consider giving gym memberships. This way you can encourage health without spending extra money. You can also give gift certificates to sporting goods shops or produce markets or trinkets like pedometers. Losing weight and staying fit seem more attainable with these kinds of items.
Live And Let Live
Offer paid sick days. Employees should be allowed the freedom to stay at home when ill without losing out on precious vacation days. Staying home when ill helps you heal quicker and prevents illness from spreading to others at the office. Avoid plagues by informing all about the sick day policy. It should be guilt free and always available.
Health Programs
Encourage those with particular issues to get them resolved. Often included in medical plans is a provision for dealing with addictions. Those who are ready should be aided when it comes to quitting smoking or overcoming anorexia or other weight problems. Email workers each month with a reminder about free programs and health benefits. It may help nudge certain people in the right direction toward lifelong wellness.
Lend A Hand
Notice those who need a little help. The Assistance Program should be able to help with problems outside the office. It does not hurt to offer nightly classes of yoga and aerobics. Offer calming herbal tea instead of coffee and free counseling. Even make up pamphlets that teach how to do stretches at the desk. Sedentary living can take a toll on the body and brain. Do all you can and have managers do all they can to lend a hand.
Stress can lead to illness. Illness leads to staying home from work and makes for unhappy employees. Keep all of the company smiling with these tools. Educate your coworkers so they can do more for themselves. Give them the tools they need to make it through each workweek and shine in their positions.
