7 Quick Fixes For Good Employee Health

There are so many challenges to meet at work each week. It can be hard to take care of the body with work-related activities constantly on the mind. But there are things you can do to make wellness a priority. Help your employees get on the road to lifelong health with these quick fixes.

1. Make Health Easier
Often, getting in shape just takes too much time. So make it easier. Install a gym in the office or reimburse employees for when they join a gym on their own. People who exercise are less likely to contract diseases and illnesses that bump up insurance costs for the whole company.
At meetings, skip the pizza and donuts. Opt for healthier foods like vegetable trays, salad, or sandwiches on whole grain bread. Make sure that there is always free water available. You can even add fruit to the break room.
2. Give Rewards
Rewards work well with everyone. So give incentives for losing weight. Challenge individual employees or teams to weight loss or cholesterol loss goals. Those who win may be given a gift certificate or bonus.
For those who smoke, offer rewards for months gone by without smoking. Those trying to quit should take part in programs offered in the health benefits package. Programs with incentives can help cut down on smoking breaks and improve lives.
3. Make It Fun
Break the company into teams and host sporting events. Company softball and volleyball games are always a riot, especially when free food is available. Turn the championship into a company picnic for families of employees.
Host a 5-K run or walk for a cause. Donate money to a charity in need, or even to a company program for obesity. America needs all the help she can get when it comes to weight management. Do something for the cause of nationwide health.
4. Prevent Germs From Spreading
Pop out the hand sanitizer and set up stations for it within the office. People are more likely to keep their hands clean between bathroom breaks with hand sanitizer around. Make it visible with a germ fun-fact sheet.
Make sure that all food in the office is individually wrapped. This goes for meetings, parties, and everyday living.
5. Avoid Illness
Implement a strict policy when it comes to recycling food. Some people like to bring leftovers back from parties or meetings to reuse. It may seem kind but it is just dangerous.
Often, dairy and meat sit out for too long at social functions. This can cause food poisoning. Prevent health hazards by throwing out all used foods.
6. Party With Health In Mind
Instead of filling the place with alcohol for company parties, fill it with flavored water and sparkling cider. This makes everything more family-friendly and helps with liver health. Serve vegetable trays and fruit trays rather than carbohydrates and meat.
7. Reduce Stress
Stress can bring about all kinds of illnesses. Each person is predisposed to certain health problems through their genes that only show under excessive stress. Stress can make the body more vulnerable to cold and flu viruses, as well. Mediate this killer now.
Offering job-sharing programs is becoming more and more popular. Set up a network for those dealing with problems at home so that they can take time off from work without penalty.
This goes for sick days, too. Let workers take off a certain number of sick days each year that do not count as vacation time. This way employees can get better to come back to work sooner and not spread illness around to others. It's a two-fold benefit.
With all of the stresses of everyday life at the office, do what you can to make employees' lives better. Just a few changes can lead to happier, healthier people in your company.
