Correcting Computer Vision Syndrome

Are you struggling with computer vision syndrome? What is this and how can you find ways to control it? Computer vision syndrome is actually quite common and it is a concern for many reasons as it can lead to problems dealing with reading of the computer screen. If you have employees that are on the computer all day long, it is common for them to have problems with computer vision. It usually starts with blurred vision, squinting to read the screen, and in many cases you also have headaches that occur as a result of computer vision.

Individuals that stare at computer screens for at least 5 hours a day are likely to suffer from computer vision syndrome. About 37 thousand people will end up dealing with computer vision problems. Staring at the screen and not giving your eyes adequate amounts of rest can easily cause you to suffer from computer vision syndrome. Recent studies show that computer vision syndrome will lead to concerns for your physical health but also for your emotional health as well as it is likely that you can deal with anxiety as well as stress related to computer vision syndrome. Changing the position in which you stare at the screen can help but you should look for some type of protection that can help you in dealing with computer vision like using a screen protector or using glasses.

Make your employee aware of the issues that are indicators of computer vision syndrome. It may start with a simple dryness of the eyes or having eye fatigue. Tell them to start taking breaks at this point because if they don't it is likely that the symptoms will worsen into headaches and possibly migraines. It is a smart idea to have each one of your company computer screens properly examined and to adjust the brightness so your staff members do not need to squint to read the screen.

Talk to your employees to make them aware that this is a real condition and that you want to help prevent it from affecting them. Purchase computer vision glasses for your employees to wear. These glasses have a very small tint and magnification to them but what they ultimately do is provide you with a little extra protection against the strain on your eyes that can occur when you look at a computer screen all day long. There are also screen guards that you can use which do the same type of thing in helping to prevent strain on the eyes.

Encourage employees to take a break at least 1 time per hour. If they are working for 2-3 straight hours it is recommended that you take a 30 minute break from the computer to relax your eyes. If your eyes are hurting, use some ice packs on them to relax them a little bit. There are also cucumber pads that are recommended to help reduce some of the eye tension that can occur with computer vision syndrome.

Artificial tear drop can help in reducing problems with dry eyes. Always have some eye drops available for your staff members to use in order to help with their computer vision problem. Another thing you need to do is to make sure proper office ergonomics are being followed. You want to have your staff members at an equal distance from the computer screen from where they are sitting with their arms and legs positioned at a 90 degree angle. Adjusting the brightness and focus of the screen will also be able to help in preventing concerns and issues with computer vision syndrome.
