A guide to putting together small business advertisements

Now that more and more businesses are beginning to use the internet as their most popular form of advertising, but there are still many companies who use traditional paper advertisements as their main source of advertising. But the thing is regardless of which form of advertisements you are using there are still some guidelines that you are going to need to follow when you are putting together your advertisement for your small business. The reason that you are going to want to follow certain guidelines when putting together your small business advertisements is that you want the advertisements to stand out because they are going to be promoting your business. And the truth of the matter is the better your advertisements are the more customers you are going to end up attracting to your small business.

Here are some things that you should keep in mind when it comes to putting together small business advertisements. But something that you need to keep in mind when it comes to advertising on the internet is that in order to advertise your business on the internet you are going to need to create a website. So when it comes to putting together advertisements for your small business creating a website is going to be at the top of the list because without a successful website you will have nothing to advertise on the internet.

Guideline one:
Always give your content more prominence on your website, basically you should have more space dedicated to your product or services then you do to ad space. The content on your website should be clear and concise and preferably in the middle of the page without any ad interruptions.

Guideline two:
The best place to put the extra ad space is on the right hand side or the bottom of the website. But whatever you place the ads you do not want to place any ads on the left hand side of the website. The reason for this is rather simple. When we read we read from left to right so if the ads were placed on the left hand side of the website they would be the first thing that we saw. When potential customers come to your website you want them to see your content first so by placing a menu or something similar on the left hand side and keeping your main content in the middle you are increasing your products promotion on your website.

Guideline three:
While you want the main focus to be on your content you are still going to want to draw some of the attention to the advertisements on your space. This is especially true if you are getting paid for directing customers to the site, such as pay per click advertising or something similar. So something you are going to want to do is choose ads that go along with what your website is about. For example if your website is about computers you are going to want to have ads that sell computer parts, software or anything else that deals with computers. This way your potential customers can find anything else they are looking for on your website.

Guideline four:
If you are going to buy ad space to promote your company you are going to want to think about the above items because they are going to help you decide where to purchase your ad space. For example you are not going to want to buy ad space on a website that is devoted to finding you the perfect match if you are offering blinds for sale. Also by thinking about the above factors if you find a website that is offering ad space on the left hand side you can take advantage of knowing that is probably going to be read first rather than last like other websites.

Guideline five:
When designing your advertisement you have to think if you want a text based advertisement or if you want some graphics in your advertisements. Most people tend to think that graphics tend to draw more people to an advertisement, but what they don't realize is that if the graphics are too flashy they can actually draw people away from what you are trying to sell. Text based ads are known to attract more traffic because they are actually recognized by search engines and can end up in the results that they provide.

Guideline six:
Now you have heard that flashy graphics don't work very well with search engines because search engines only tend to recognize text based ads so you might be thinking that if you are sending out ads in the paper or through the mail that flashy graphics will work. The truth of the matter is that graphics can actually take away from your ads if they are too much. So when creating advertisements for your company you want to keep the graphics on the simple side and come up with a line or slogan that can grab your potential customer's attention.
