An attorney at law, commonly called a lawyer, is a very necessary element of any well-functioning, orderly society. A well-functioning, orderly society is a law-abiding society. A society, for example, makes a law against stealing. This helps things to go along smoothly. If there's no stealing, merchants can stay in business. Farmers can stay in business. So, a former business partner has scammed you, has cheated you. What can you do about it? The law opens up in front of you like a vast, misty maze. There's no way you can navigate it by yourself. How do you go after your former business partner? How do you pursue him? How do you get your rights? How can you prove that he stole from you? And whom do you prove it to? It's hopeless - you're lost in the maze. You're lost, that is, until you hire an attorney at law (or lawyer) to help you. An attorney at law is a guide in the maze. An attorney at law is a confident guide, he's been trained in all the ins and outs of the maze. He'll know just what to do. He'll know how to go after your former business partner, he'll know how to get the law to pursue your former business partner until you get your money back.

You might also want to call your State Bar Association. Your State Bar Association will have a listing of every lawyer in your state and information about every lawyer in your state.
