 Right market. If you are marketing an amazing and colorful banner to the wrong people, it won't matter how amazing your banner is. Make sure you are marketing to the right crowd. Find what your target market is then work really hard to find as many people in that market as you can. If you are selling make-up then start with the women you know and get references, from them get two more references, and keep going! You will find a great customer base that can keep growing.
 Right information. It doesn't matter how great the layout is for your new ad if you put the wrong information in it. Make sure that the name, phone number, address and promotion are all correct. This becomes the biggest problem when you are reprinting an old ad, you need to make sure you change the information before the reprint. If you are handing out coupon are they out of date? The right information cannot be substituted.
 Right advertisement. You have found who you need to advertise to, you have found the information to put in your advertisement, now you need to know what will be the best way to get the advertisement to them. If your customers are all over 65 then email may not be the best way to reach all of them. If your customers are children then pictures will portray a better idea then a lengthy explanation.

Now if you can get all of that right then you will be able to maximize the few dollars you can put into your advertising budget. But here are a few more things that will help you to get the most out of the money you are putting towards marketing your small business.

 Always be willing to make a deal. If your business is child care then trade your printer free child care for free printing. This could take your dollars even further. If your business is preparing taxes, prepare their taxes free in exchange for them setting up your website for you. Always be ready to say "Let's make a deal!"
 Get your name out there is a positive way, become a sponsor. Whether it is a walk for diabetes, a bike race for the breast cancer, or a freestyle motorcycle tournament you can find something that your target market will be supporting. If you can sponsor something where your target market is going to be, then you will have great exposure, and only at the price you can afford to donate.
 Make sure that your ads are competitive. If you are doing a great job of advertising but your prices are too high then you won't see any results. Make sure your prices are good and that your service behind them is even better. If you don't have a pricing edge then have a service edge, be the best at making customers happy with their experience.
