Businesses everywhere are looking to save money. This is especially true when it comes to marketing. Marketing dollars have to be carefully allocated where they will bring the most return. Unfortunately, many business owners make the mistake of trimming their marketing dollars, when the economy gets difficult. The reality is that instead of saving the business money, cutting the marketing budget can doom it to fail. It's crucial to keep this basic fact in mind-how will you sell to your customers, if they don't know where to find you?Marketing is crucial to keeping a business, growing and making money.

Because the need to cut costs and make every dollar count, it becomes crucial that business owners become highly creative in their marketing strategies. The good news is that there are several ways that you can market your company, without it costing you any money. While these no cost ideas may not be able to form your entire marketing plan, they can make up a significant portion of it. If you are creative and willing to put in the time and effort, these no costs marketing strategies, can bring you the same or better return as high priced marketing.

Here are some no cost marketing tips-

  • Network, network, and then network some more-Many times business owners think of networking and marketing as two separate entities, when in reality there are very much the same. What you are doing by networking/marketing is getting your name out there and letting your potential clients, know what you can offer them. You want to be in place where your business can get notice. It can be helpful to attend Business Alliance, or Chamber of Commerce meetings. Anyplace that there may be a good connection for your business is where you should be. After attending as many as you can, make sure that you use email and phone calls to follow up. You want to do this immediately while you are still fresh in someone's mine. If you network with someone who is not interested in your product, make sure that you ask if they know of someone who can. Finally, make sure that you get all applicable contact information.

  • Get into the public eye-Festival, town meeting, or informal business gathering; whether there is sales potential, you should be there as well. You want to make sure that you also are speaking publicly everywhere you can. However, you should make sure that you are offering information of value, as you want others to perceive you as the expert in your field. This can be a great way to get information out about your business and what you offer.

  • Go for the co-op marketing-It is important to keep in mind that your business is not the only one, feeling the stress of the economy. Other businesses will also be looking for ways to market their business, in the most cost effective way possible. Now is the time to approach other businesses and even your vendors, to see if they would be interested in co-op marketing. This type of marketing can be as simple or as complex as the two parties determine it should be. However, most businesses go with the simple approach. You can offer to include the business cards, or pamphlets of another business, in your mailings, and then they would do the same for you.

Finally, you should be prepared to put the time into these marketing efforts. While they may not require a big outlay of cash, they will require that someone put some time and effort behind making them work. However, if you commit to even doing one of these strategies, every week, within a short period of time you will see your company gain both name recognition and additional business.
