Most business managers are always looking for ways to improve the productivity of the business they manage. One of the ways to do this is to focus on helping your employees be as productive as they can. Savvy business managers understand that their workforce is their most valuable asset and they do all they can to utilize and encourage their staff in the right ways. When your employees know that you truly care about them and want to help them do their jobs in a more productive way they are far more likely to try to do so. You will need to show your employees that you respect and appreciate them if you want loyal, hard working, and long term employees. Here is what you need to know about how to have productive employees-

- Hire the right people for the right jobs-The first step to having productive employees is to make sure that you have the right people doing the right job. This decision begins when you hire. Many business managers fail to take sufficient time to check out references and adequately interview prospective job candidates to make sure that they are hiring the right people for the right job. However, if you want to have productive employees this is a crucial first step.
- Provide the best in training-Once you have the right people in the right jobs then it is time to train them. By providing the best in training you are insuring that your employees will know what to do and the best ways to get their jobs done. Keep in mind that training is ongoing issue with most businesses. Business managers need to remember that they will have employees leave and new employees be hired so you need to establish a training program that is ongoing. In addition, you want your employees to always be current on the best practices for your industry.
- Build a company culture that appreciates work-Almost everyone has to have a job in order to pay their bills but that doesn't mean that going to work has to be drudgery. Savvy business managers work hard to create a business culture that has their employees wanting to come to work and enjoying their time there. When your employees are eager and excited to come to work they are much more likely to work and be productive for your business.
- Offer benefits-Many employers feel that they cannot afford to offer benefits. However, the majority of employees receive benefits through their work. This means that unless you offer benefits you may not be able to attract the top tier of employees. If want your employees to be productive and work hard for the business that you manage you will need to offer them an incentive to stay with you. Benefits are often that incentive. This is one of the best ways to show your employees that you appreciate what they do for your business.
- Give plenty of praise-Many business managers focus only on correcting their employees and fail to offer praise for a job well done. This is demoralizing and discouraging for the employees. A simple recognition of hard work can go a long way toward keeping your employees working hard and producing for your company. Many business owners think that unless they can offer their employees something then praise is meaningless. However, studies show that most employees would just like some verbal recognition (which costs nothing), from the manager that they work for. Do not overlook the effect that praise and recognition can have on the long term success of your business.
