There are many available programs to improve your manufacturing plant.One of the most popular ways of improving manufacturing is called Lean manufacturing.Lean manufacturing is a business model as well as a multitude of manufacturing methods that focus on getting rid of the waste while at the same time producing quality products.This is all done at the lowest cost to the manufacturer and also the consumer.

There are a variety methods or programs available through lean manufacturing that you can use to improve your manufacturing plant.Most if not all of the lean manufacturing methods can occur concurrently and are implemented in sequential steps.When it comes to choices for programs to improve your manufacturing plant there are many different techniques to implement.You first need to make sure that senior management is on board, and then get your employees excited about the ideas.This article will cover six of the most widely used methods.


1. Kaizen.This lean manufacturing method is also known as rapid improvement processes, and are considered to be the "building block" of most if not all lean production methods.The main focus of Kaizen is to naturally eliminate waste in the targeted areas of organization, and in return improve productivity continually.In essence this means that by applying small incremental changes over a period of time will result in significant improvement.Your employees will work in small groups or teams to improve processes, or address specific problems.Their job is to find ways to eliminate waste in their area.You can see what kind of an impact this would have if you had many teams working in different areas.
2. Total Productive Maintenance.TPM strives to engage all levels and functions within the organization by maximizing the effectiveness of your production equipment.Total Productive Maintenance differs from other maintenance programs in that it tries to involve all workers and employees in all department levels.This includes employees from the senior management level, to those employees working on the maintenance plant floor.Total Productive Maintenance provides the training necessary for employees to understand the equipment and the machine they work with on a daily basis which in turn prevents accidents, break downs, maintenance prevention, and how to fix the problems their machines might have.The goal of Total Productive maintenance is to eliminate all losses.
3. Cellular Manufacturing.This type of program is also known as one piece flow systems.They are units put into sequence to support a smooth flow of material through the production process with little or not transport delay.Instead of sending a lot of parts to the next machine, cellular manufacturing tries to process products one piece at a time.The rate is determined by the customer's needs.Cellular manufacturing also allows companies to vary product types and product features according to customer needs and demands.
4. Six Sigma.Six Sigma is designed to measure and analyze processes to reduce process variation.Basically it allows companies to see how often defects are likely to occur.Its major goal is to reach near perfection.
5. 5s program.Naturally there are five stages to this lean manufacturing technique.The stages are called, "Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain."Each step is different but the same goal.In order for your manufacturing plant to run smoothly, then employees need to be focused on their job.The 5s program helps employees reach that goal.
