One of the newest tools available for businesses to use for marketing is a business blog. This new form of social media can be a great way to attract potential customers and foster a better relationship, with your existing customers. Many businesses find that they can use a blog; to make their company and what they offer, stand out from the competition. You can also use your blog to help you build a reputation, and position yourself as the expert in your industry. Today's consumer wants to educate themselves about their purchasing decisions, so if your blog can provide valuable information to them, they are likely to continue to follow it and then purchase, from your business. Best of all a blog is a no cost way to not only market your business and its products or services, but it can be a place where you can respond in a time fashion to your customers concerns and questions.

However, before you go about creating your business blog there are certain factors to consider. Taking these factors into account will help your blog to be more successful. Here are a few of those factors-

  • Start with a plan-It is not enough to open a blog and just start writing. You want to have a definite plan as to what your blog should be. You need to decide if your blog will be a place that educates your target market, or if you will simply be posting articles that are applicable to your business.

  • Do your research-It is important to take your time and do some research. You should read other blogs, especially those that are posted from your competition. You want to know how to make your blog stand out of the crowd, and attract your target customers.

  • Decide where to host your blog-It is important to keep in mind that if you host your blog, in own environment, then you can choose the details and select the structure of your blog. If you use a hosting platform that means that you will have to select from the templates that they have available.

  • Choose the right name-Just like everything else there is a lot of importance attached to selecting the right name. You want to make sure that you have thought about the name, and are choosing the one that best reflects what your company is all about.

  • Add some personality-There are literally thousands of blogs that your potential customers can choose to follow. Because of this it is important to infuse your blog with some personality. You want to give some serious thought about how you will present your blog, to your customers. If you fail to add some personality to your blog, your readers will most likely get bored and move onto another on. You need to decide if your blog will be a place to joke, vent or simply present information about your company. You will also need to decide if the blog will be fact based only, or will it include opinions? You should also keep in mind that if you have more then one author working on the blog, it can be more difficult to infuse your blog with some personality. If you are going to have several different authors working on the blog, then you may want to give each one a specific area to work on, so that they can infuse their personality, into their section.

  • Give some value-The bottom line is that if you fail to provide information that is of some value to your readers, they will quickly tire of following you. They will move onto another blog that can offer them what they are seeking. You should also keep in mind that a blog is not just a place to sell. Your readers don't want to constantly be confronted about buying something. Finally, keep in mind that you need to promote your blog. Without promotion, no matter how well written your blog, it is unlikely to gain a significant amount of readers.
