Creating a flexible manufacturing layout

There are always adjustments that need to be made when you are dealing with manufacturing processes. The popular style of many is called flexible manufacturing. What is flexible manufacturing and how is it able to provide you with efficient and timely production? Flexible manufacturing is a process that allows several different products to be created on a single production line. They often are not done at the same time but the machines can be changed and adjusted quickly in order to create the products that you need. Having this type of flexibility makes it much easier for manufacturing plants to take on multiple jobs that might not be as large, opening them up to a larger audience base.

How can you create a flexible manufacturing layout with your organization? This will come down to using 2 different options that are available. You can choose from the machine flexibility or the routine flexibility. Both can be used in order to create an effective system that will allow employees to get their work done in a quick timeframe with little or no errors. It will need a re-configuration process in order to make it work correctly and effectively. What the machine will need is an option where new instructions can be inserted and then it will change the robotic arms so the different product can be produced and sent through the system. This system makes it so much easier for different parts to be created and sent through the production like. Comparing to using multiple machines and lines, flexible manufacturing can save you a lot of wasted time and will also be able to make it a lot easier for your company to get everything done that it needs to.

A flexible manufacturing system is no longer multiple things that are attempting to feed into one another. Now it is one machine that is able to do the work of 3 different machines or whatever it may be able to do. Having several robotic devices that are being controlled by other automated devices will dramatically reduce the error ratio and it puts a lot of the burden and responsibility back onto the shoulders of the operator of the equipment. Each employee that changes the instructions and has control over specific aspect of the manufacturing layout must be responsible for their decisions and the things that they end up changing with the layout as it can very well ruin an entire batch of products.

Job scheduling is one of the things that will be necessary with a manufacturing layout. You need to have a job schedule in order to avoid trying to book too many jobs on the machine at the same time. The job schedule will help you to see which projects are priority and which ones are being produced and how long they need before a change can be made. This keeps the employees in line with where they need to be and it helps the machines to get the jobs done in a timely manner.

Planning and design are a big part of an effective manufacturing layout. Be sure machines aren't bumping into another and that you do not have jobs and other things overlapping one another as well. The system is created to make one machine do the job of 2 and you need to have a sorting area in order to get the completed products to the right places. Remember the robotic arms and how their positioning might alter processes and how it can interfere with the employee's ability to do their jobs correctly. After you work with the robotic arms, consider the cell controllers and the need to make all the support devices work without interference.
