How to put customer advantage above competitive advantage in manufacturing

When it comes to manufacturing there is nothing more important then putting customer advantage above competitive advantage. But before you can do that you are going to need to understand what customer advantage is and what competitive advantage is and how they apply to manufacturing.

Let's first start with customer advantage. Basically what customer advantage is would be something that you are providing the customers that will set you apart from other companies. Basically you are promising to deliver something to your customers that your competition can't or doesn't provide for them. An example of a customer advantage program would be a warranty, service or delivery that your competition doesn't yet provide.

When it comes to competitive advantage many people already know what that is. Basically competitive advantage is getting the edge over your competition so that you can gain the customers. But one thing that you need to keep in mind is that if you don't have something that your competitors do there is no way you are going to gain the advantage because customers are going to find out the truth in the end, which means you shouldn't put all your money into marketing your slogan or your advantage if what you are saying won't hold up.

Difficulty rating: Easy

Step one:
The first thing that you are going to need to do is to figure out what kind of customer advantage program you are going to employ for your company.

Step two:
Once you have determined what you are going to offer you are going to want to do some research to see if any of the other business in your industry offer that same advantage. It would also be a good idea to see what they do offer if they are offering something else. By knowing everything you can about the other companies you are going to be able to offer things that they don't already offer or you can fine tune what they offer and make it even better.

Step three:
The next thing that you are going to need to do is to put your plan into action by starting a new marketing campaign. You are going to want to notify all of your old customers, as well as update all of your marketing tools with your new customer advantage program.

Step four:
Some things that you are going to want to notify your customers about is what it is you are offering, how it is new and improved to what you were offering before, what it covers and what it excludes, etc.

Step five:
Now the last thing that you need to do to put customer advantage above competitive advantage is to actually deliver what you promise. If you stick to what you have said you will do then your customers are going to be happy and will tell other people about what you are offering. And everybody knows that the best form of advertising is word of mouth, not to mention that if your customers keep coming back your reputation is going to build which will give you an even bigger advantage.

But one thing that you need to know about customer advantage is that it is actually a form of competitive advantage so there is actually no set way you should go about putting customer advantage above competitive advantage. The reason why customer advantage is a form of competitive advantage is that you are competing with your competitors for the customers and the way you are getting them is through offering them something that your competitors can not offer them or will not offer them.
