The role of Black belts in Six Sigma

ladywithpiechart.jpgThe role of a black belt in Six Sigma is for individuals who know the knowledge of the Six Sigma philosophies. A person who is certified with a Black Belt has to be able to show team leadership and responsibilities while working in a management or non management position. You have to be educated on lean management and DMAIC to qualify for the Black Belt role. Being certified as a Six Sigma Black Belts will allow you to be responsible for helping employees meet their potential and their goals and will allow you to oversee projects responsible for the Six Sigma. When you are a Black Belt, many times you will work in a management position, but often times you will be asked to use your skills on certain issues.

When you certify to become a Black Belt in Six Sigma you will be the lead example and will have to fulfill the duties of your role. Such duties are, work with projects and project teams to better companies and employees, be in charge and run Six Sigma projects, be supportive and train others who are working on achieving their Green Belts, work directly with your team and the customer you are working with and meeting the needs of the customer, be in the leadership role and provide effective support to your employees, and report to management to let them know how their teams are doing.

When running a project as a Black Belt in Six Sigma, you are responsible for helping others to achieve the goal in site and working one on one with the customer. You will be using the Six Sigma strategies to help you achieve this. You must identify what you can do to help the project you are faced with and improve the situation and get the work done timely and effectively. You must help the company re-evaluate how their management and lines are running. You will be helping in the finance dept, marketing dept, etc.Helping a company make changes can be difficult. When you become a Black Belt you must learn how to interact with employees and be compassionate.

Being a Black Belt Six Sigma, your role is to strive for achievement. You must face the challenge and find where a change needs to be made. When working with machines, it may take a couple of hours a day or weeks for several month to evaluate what you can change to make it more efficient. Be patient with the process and find what you can do to make the change happen. Being a Black Belt, you are responsible for keeping it a positive process. Once you have made change to one machine, move to the next. The goal behind being a Black Belt Six Sigma is to strive for excellence with your challenge and the employees that you are mentoring.

Black Belts also encourage the green belts and yellow belts as they move forward with projects. Your role is to assign them projects and then monitor their progression.

You also have the role of mentoring the Green Belts in Six Sigma. You will have the responsibility to get mentor them to be educated as you are. Teach them how to work with companies and analyze and assess the situation. Once they know how to work with the project owners, they can help evaluate the situation and implement changes that need to be made. Help them to understand what Six Sigma means how they can effective in their daily lives and challenges they come across. When you teach them to be excellent in their personal lives, they will strive to do the same in working situations.
