DMAIC

DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control.DMAIC is the most popular Six Sigma implementation program as it serves as the groundwork for most other Six Sigma strategies.As with other Six Sigma methodologies, DMAIC is driven by data or quantifiable information that is as objective as possible.Six Sigma focuses on projects that will produce measurable business results.So, for example, Six Sigma is not a recommended strategy for performance evaluation of other internal managerial type conflicts.Once the business results are defined, measured, and analyzed the information gathered is then used to improve overall business processes by understanding and controlling variation.When variation can be controlled, you improve the predictability of business processes thereby eliminating unnecessary steps in the production process and keeping more of your hard-earned money with the company.

Six Sigma has various team leaders who are responsible for carrying out specific roles within the process.Each leader is distinguished by their "belt" type and only received this belt following a training and certification process.

Various certifications within Six Sigma

The leaders who are in charge of the Six Sigma implementation and daily management are called Champions.When certified, the champions of Six Sigma projects have received training on the essential characteristics of the Six Sigma way of thinking and are able to create goals for the business that are in alignment with the principles of Six Sigma.Champions do not work alone.They are leaders of a team of individuals who have received training that enables them to support the champion in his or her role.

The second in command to the champion is the master black belt.An individual who is a certified Six Sigma master black belt assists the champion in defining projects, teaching other members of the group, and is eventually the successor to the champion.Naturally, master black belts receive extensive training in Six Sigma methodology and statistical tools. Six Sigma green belts are project leaders who receive a more modest amount of training, but who must also show an understanding of the essential elements and statistical methodologies of Six Sigma projects.Greenbelts often fill other roles within the organization and use their Six Sigma experience on a part time basis.In some cases, a green belt will work half of his or her full time workday once over few quarters.

Business leaders see hiring employees who have Six Sigma training as a huge bonus as these individuals are able to fill a number of positions any of which can be called upon when needed.

Six Sigma projects are not necessarily solely for the use of business looking to make a great deal of money.Six Sigma projects play an important role with nonprofit organizations as well. Just like a for-profit company, non-profit projects must be aligned to meet organizational priorities.
