What does your small business website look like? Do you have content that the customers want to read? Do you have content that is 100% original? If you are creating a small business website it is important that you focus on finding a way to gain a respond from the customers as they are desirable to read the content and continue to come back to your website for more. They may even recommend your site to their friends and others based on the quality of the content that you have put on your website. To make your small business website work you need to look at other websites in your industry. What type of content is out there? Do your customers have a desire to read the content? Is it valuable to them?

Look at other websites to see what type of information is out there. You want to see the way other small business owners have designed their websites as well so you can get some ideas from them as to how you can create a nicer looking website and one that the customers will want to come to. Many people do not know how to create an effective website. If you are new at this, consider hiring the service out to a graphic designer or to a company that specializes in creating websites. They will have the knowledge and information you need in order to create a website that will be effective and will look nice. A website needs to be visually appealing in order to gain a response from your customers. Consider the websites out there that you tend to favor based on the way that they look.

Watch out for things that can be hard to deal with like adding Flash player to the homepage. It's fine to have it on your site somewhere but when it's on the homepage; it can slow down the customer's ability to see your information and to make sure that they are able to do something about it. A website needs to be user friendly in order to generate a response. Keep in mind that iPads and many mobile devices do not support flash player so you could be losing out on a lot of customers that rely heavily on their mobile devices rather than using their computer to search for your information.

Your customers want to be able to see the information quickly and they need to find it without a big headache. Do you have a search bar on your website? How about adding additional things to the site as well like a tab system to find information based on topics? You need to do everything that you possibly can in order to make your website easier for the customers and to make the site enjoyable. A great way to find out what the customers want is to ask them! You should take the time to create some great customer surveys and to ask the customers about the website and to find out what type of things they would like to see on the website. As you learn from their perspective it can make it easier on you to create a website that they will actually have a desire to visit.

Look at the costs of creating a website from scratch and the costs of hiring an outside company to do it for you. A website is one of the best marketing tools that you have available, invest money into your website to make it useable for your organization so you can make a difference!
