As you look for new ways to generate leads for your sales team one of the marketing promotions that you may be toying with it the idea of using article marketing. Is article marketing an effective way to generate leads? Can you really boost your website traffic with articles? Can the articles help you in establishing your company brand and image? Article marketing is tricky as there are a lot of companies that engage in it. You have some companies that understand how article marketing works and others that do not get it at all. If you are toying with the decision, here are some tips that can help you out.

Tip # 1 - Content
Article marketing isn't about building links like so many companies think. It is about the quality content that you are adding. Why would your customers have the desire to read the article? What is it about the article that will cause them to click back to your website? The content of the article is important to it becoming successful for your company. If the article does not provide the reader with something that is going to benefit them, they aren't going to read any future articles and they will not click back to your website. Don't listen to all the people that claim the goal is about keywords and have strategic locations for the keywords. The search engine crawlers change enough that you really just need to work on getting the right content out there for your customers as this will be respected by the customers and the search engines.

Tip # 2 - Posting
Where are you planning to add the articles? This is something that you need to consider since posting them on some "popular" sites might not be the best route to take. It is actually a smarter decision to consider posting your articles on your own blog so you can reap the rewards of the traffic. Use social media to help you promote the articles as well. Social media sites can give you the quality links you need and they give you more exposure than you will get with an article marketing site. These sites are very limited on the traffic that comes to them so you aren't always going to get in touch with your target market.

Tip # 3 - New Information
As you are working to generate leads from the articles and to establish your reputation you need to focus on sending out new information to your customers. Don't just write the same articles as other companies and give your customers something NEW to read. Always copyright your articles as there can be a lot of theft with article marketing and many people steal content.

Tip # 4 - Word Count
An article that is less than 300 words is used specifically for links. Your customers are not going to gain ANYTHING valuable when you are not actually creating a strategy with your articles. You need to take the time to write up articles that actually have a nice tone to them and that give plenty of information for the customers to mull over. A quality article will be about 500 to 700 words. Take your time in writing the articles and don't focus on pumping out as many as you can as the quality will start to dwindle.

Tip # 5 - Know What You Are Talking About
Since your goal is to build your reputation you want to work on getting the right education so you can really back what you are saying to your customers. You need to keep the content close to what the company sells and promotes. If you just write on a variety of topics your customers can tell that you do not really understand what you are talking about.
