Still Using Direct Mail?

Are you using direct mail marketing to help you create stronger relationships with your customers? Is direct mail one of your top marketing programs that generates revenue? Direct mail marketing was commonly used by just about every company in the past but many companies have cut back or no longer use it because of the cost and the ability to use the internet to market the company.

Direct mail is effective as long as you are using it in the right way. Many companies find that direct mail will allow them to strengthen relationships with their customers as you can send out printed material to the customers that will engage them and will help them to remain loyal. People that do not rely on the internet to acquire information often end up turning to direct mail to gain most of their information from the newspaper to the marketing messages that are sent to them. Depending upon the type of company you have, it will be easy for you to understand if you have customers that are dependant on direct mail to keep in touch with your organization.

If you are using direct mail marketing, one of the biggest elements you have to look at is timing. A direct mail piece must be delivered on time in order to generate the right response from your customers. You also need to ensure that your material is attractive and will be able to catch the reader's eye in the first place.

Timing will pertain to things like the launch of a new product or the timing of a product with a holiday occasion or other event. It is important that you have on-time delivery of the marketing promotions that are being sent out to the customers to have a chance to actually get a response out of them. Keep in mind the time it will take for the post office to do their job in getting the marketing materials out on time. For this reason you may want to add an extra day to your marketing campaign so you do have plenty of time for it to be sent out and for the customers to respond to it.

Add up the costs of printing the direct mail flyers and promotions along with the cost of mailing them. You need to be able to look at your mailing list and to clean it up as much as possible to save money on direct mail campaigns. Some of the addresses that you have will likely end up with issues as the customers may have moved or you have input them incorrectly. Having a mailing list that is not clean can easily cost you hundreds of dollars depending upon your target market.

To save money consider using postcards. They are cheaper to mail and you can print color on one side, which can easily reduce the total printing cost that you may be looking at. In addition to this you might even try using a private company to help you create a campaign to send out. Private companies will be able to generate a marketing promotion for you that can stimulate a response from the customers. It is important that you talk about the importance of timing your message to the customers and to find out how quickly they can get it out to your audience.

Comparing the costs is the best thing you can do. This will allow you to see if your ROI from a direct mail campaign is worth it or not. In many cases you may find that internet marketing brings in a stronger ROI and it's a much easier campaign to work with.
