AOL Quick Buddy

America On Line offers a program called Quick Buddy. The advantage of Quick Buddy is that it is a very simple way of knowing which of your friends are online and it enables you to communicate with them easily and fast over the Internet. The nice thing is that you don't have to download or install any files onto your computer. All you have to do is register which allows you to add your buddies to your Buddy List. When your Buddies are online, you can communicate with them instantly.

How do you add buddies to your list? It is very simple. All you have to do is select Add from the Buddy List window and the Add Buddy window appears. You will be able to add up to 100 buddies to your list. Besides your regular friends, you can also add family members, co-workers, teachers, etc.

You can also add a group. This is also a very simple process. Just add your buddy's name group to the "To add a group type new name here field." Select the group you want to add your buddies name to and type in his or her name in the Buddy Name field. Don't close this window until you have added at least one name. The nice thing about adding groups is that you can divide them into interest groups, such as: Your athletic team members, your college classmates, committee members etc. Remember that your buddies must be signed on in order to communicate with them.

How do you send an instant message to a buddy?

• Select IM on the Buddy List window


• Type in your buddy's name in the "To" field


• Type the message you want to send in the text box


• Click Send

Your screen name and the message you have written will appear in the Conversation window. When your buddy answers your message, his name and message will appear in the window. When you are finished, click Close.

When you want to invite your buddies to chat:

• Select Chat on the Buddy List window


• Enter his or her buddies' name to the screen that says - make in the Screen "Names to Invite text box"


• Click Send

You can continually add new buddies to your groups. But how would you remove a name that is no longer needed on your list?

• Select Edit from the Buddy List window


• Select his or her name, or the group name


• Click on the Remove button

When you are removing a group, all of the names will be removed.
There are so many features with this program. It can be fun and exciting once you become acquainted with the simple steps. By the click of a button you can display information about someone, send instant messages, invite others to chat, and warn someone who is sending messages that are offensive to you.

How do you register for this program? If you already have and AOL Instant Messenger account, it won't be necessary to register again, you can start using AOL Quick Buddy immediately. And your screen name is saved for you with the AIM program. To register, do the following:

• Click on Register


• Enter your screen name and password


• Click on the Click Her button


• Begin to register

After you register your screen name and password, you will receive an e-mail asking you to confirm your request. This too is simple. All you have to do is enter the word OK in your confirmation e-mail. Be sure to respond quickly because if you don't respond within 48 hours, you will have to register all over again.

Start now to send instant messages directly from your web browser, such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer, to all of those acquaintances you want to keep in touch with.
