AOL Upgrades

There are now lots of new and enhanced security services as part of AOL's standard package with the introduction of AOL 9.0 Security Edition. This new package will feature McAfee Virus Scan online and Spyware protection. Spyware protection is an instant-messaging spam blocker. A good feature with this is that it will alert users when there are suspicious activities going on with your bank accounts and credit card purchases. It is a comfortable way of protecting yourself from online threats and will save you money and frustrations. If you are an AOL subscriber, you will be able to download AOL 9.0 Security Edition from the online "keyword" interface by typing in "upgrade" or by going to http://www.aol.com. You will appreciate the fact that there is no additional charge to you.

How do I update my AOL browser?

From the Favorites menu, click Go To Keyword.
In the Keyword text box, enter upgrade. Click Go.
Click Start UPGRADE Now.
Click Current Members.
Click to select Upgrading to a new version of AOL on this computer. Click NEXT.

What requirements do I need to install AOL 9.0 on my system?
The following minimum system requirements for installing AOL 9.0 on your PC are:
Your Operating Systems should have Window 98, 2000, or XP . Your Processor should have
Pentium-class; minimum speed as recommended for your operating system, and RAM of 64 MB or more. It also requires a RAM of 64 MB or above (128MB recommended). You will need Hard disk space of128 MB or above. Screen resolution of: 800x600 and 256 colors or greater and any of the following connections: 28.8 Kbps modem or faster; Broadband (DSL or cable); ISDN; or TCP/IP (LAN connections)
There are current plans to offer a version of AOL 9.0 compatible with Mac OS or Windows 95.

There is no charge to upgrade to AOL 9.0, but you will be responsible for charges associated with your Internet service. You need to understand that some of the optional new features available in AOL 9.0 (such as IM2Mobile) are "premium services" which carry an additional charge for their use. If you want "premium services, AOL will notify you of any additional charges in advance."

If you have an adequate amount of space available on your hard drive, it is recommended that you keep another version of the AOL software on your computer. This in case your new software does not function properly.
