Direct TV Forum

It used to be that when customers had questions or problems, they called up the customer service support center. This could mean being put on hold for long periods of time or being transferred to a variety of different departments while waiting to find answers.

Now, however, thanks to the internet, questions can be answered in a variety of ways. One valuable source of information is the company's website itself. Direct TV has put together an informative website, directtv.com, designed specifically to help their customers and potential customers find the information they're seeking about Direct TV products, services, and troubleshooting questions. The website is broken down into a number of categories that includes information on pricing, packages, troubleshooting, and contact information.

Another informative source for people is internet forums. These forums are comprised of people who have Direct TV as well or who have had experience with it in the past. While company websites are great sources of information, their main purpose is to sell their product.

Forums, however, consist of the general public, not salesmen or people associated with the company itself. For this reason, the information presented on the forums is more "real" than that on the company's website. Direct TV forums can be a valuable source of information for a variety of questions, problems, or advice.

In internet forums, users make an account with a user name and a password. Then, they're able to post any questions or problems they may have. In addition, they are also able to answer or comment on other people's questions or posts. If you do not register with the forum, you can usually read other people's posts, but you can't comment or ask your own questions.

While it's probably better to go directly to Direct TV's technical support line to get answers to questions, forums can be helpful if the board is active - you won't need to be on hold. In addition, other users may be able to answer questions Direct TV wouldn't, like which is better, Direct TV or Dish Network?

Forums are free sources of information; all you need to do is register with your user name and get a password.

What Information Is Presented?

Forums answer a variety of questions and problems. They also "warn" potential customers of any problems they have encountered and how to deal with them. One Direct TV forum listed the following information:

  • Satellite or Cable? Users discuss the benefits of Direct TV satellite when comparing it to cable television. Things like pricing, picture quality, and value are discussed.

  • Technical questions. Sometimes, users will post technical questions in forums for advice before calling technical support.

  • Receiver questions. Direct TV customers might consult a forum to find advice on how to set up or use their receiver.

  • Complaints. Sometimes, forum members will use the boards as a way to vent or inform other customers of complaints they may have with Direct TV or the service they received.

  • Tivo. Tivo and other DVR questions are discussed in forums as well.

  • Satellite questions in general. These can range from wanting to know how to cancel a contract to getting advice on a neighbor who is stealing satellite service.

While internet forums aren't endorsed by Direct TV, they can be a valuable source of unbiased information concerning Direct TV's products and services.
