Most of us love the internet or need it in order to do our jobs. We like to surf around and look at different sites or we send emails and communicate with friends and family. The internet is a great communication tool-no doubt about it. It is difficult to imagine what we would do with out this technological marvel. How would we function? It is nice to know that we do not need to ask these sorts of questions. The internet is here to stay and we will continue to use it as long as we need to. However, there are certain problems associated with the net. Besides the problems of waisted time and productivity, which has become a particular problem in recent years, there are other new issues. Identity theft is another serious issue, with hackers able to break into machines and get information they want. Another issue that has arisen is that of cookies-and we don't mean the stuff that comes from doe and that has chocolate chips.

Cookies are files that particular companies or websites create when you visit them. If you visit the site more than once this is noted in the cookie. Generaly cookies are temporary files, but they do show that you have visited a site, meaning that they record information about the way you look at the internet. Some of us do not mind that our computers are recording this information, but most of us would like to think that no one is watching when we start to surf the internet. But how can you get rid of these files when they are automatically installed generated? If you don't like the idea of companies recording this information, there is a way to eliminate it from your computer. Here are a few tips that will help you eliminate cookies from your computer:

If you are using Internet Explorer here are the steps you need to follow in order to turn off cookies on your computer:
1. Start by turning on Internet Explorer
2. Go to `tools' and then select the `Internet' options menu
3. Select the `General' tab.
4. There should be a delet cookies button here-click it.
5. Select `OK' and then hit this button again.
There is a different procedure when you turn cookies off in Firefox. Here are the steps you need to take in order to do this:
1. Begin by turning on Firefox
2. Go to the `tools' menu and then to the `privacy' tab
3. Select the clear button that is by `cookies'
4. Finally, click on the `OK' button.

Following these basic steps should clear the cookies on your computer, meaning that the files recording what sites you have visited will be deleted and will not be available to companies. Given how easy it is to delete the cookies on your computer it would probably be best to do so. While not all of us care about the existence of cookies on our computers, most of us would not like companies to have accsses to them. It is strange to think that files are being made that record your internet browsing history. While perhaps not malicious, these files could provide information to people who you would not like to have looking at them. With just these few steps you can be sure that the cookies you have on your computer will be erased. That is a little bit of peace of mind that we could all use.
