Options for Digital Video Editing Software

There are many options for digital video editing software out there. Professional software to amateur software brings a buffet of choices for the consumer videographer. No matter what kind of videographer you are, there is something out there that offers the things needed to complete a project.

One of the easiest ways to edit video is on a time-line interface. Most digital video editing software programs function in that way, high-end or low-end. It puts the video clips on a long bar that can be scrolled through with a preview screen showing what the video will look like when the project is rendered. The main problem with this feature is that in some low end software it does not function properly and actually slows the computer down. The upside about this feature is that when it works, it makes editing extremely tangible to the consumer.

One option for the simple video person is the basic editing feature of DVD burning software, such as with Nero Burning ROM. In Nero burning ROM, there is a feature in the DVD burning menu where you can trim both ends of the video clip in the project. This is probably the most basic editing program one will encounter, but, if it gets the job done, why worry?

For simple video editing, there are thousands of freeware web sites that provide free software for downloading. Most of this software does basic fade, transitional, titling, and trimming effects. For a more professional looking video while staying low-end can be found with Pinnacle Video Editing. It provides pre-made titling effects, transitional effects, and other neat things that look fantastic. The problem that arises is the repetitious look of using these effects over and over again. But for the money and the quality, low budget people learn to live with what they have.

If you are willing to spend a little more money, the capabilities become greater, such as with Vegas Video Editing Software. From Pinnacle at $100, Vegas is a jump to $600. From this jump consumers gain freedom in creating titles, fades, audio editing, multiple time-line use, and other more professional tools. There are many other choices besides Vegas Video that are in the same class, but the fact of the matter is the more expensive digital video editing software delivers more to the project and the desires of the videographer.

The next step passed the Vegas Video class of digital video editing software is professional grade. Software such as Final Cut ProAdobe Premier delivers big budget results. There are huge volumes of books written on how to use this software. Film-makers in college take classes to learn how to use these tools because it is the current way of editing film turned to video. While this option would seem to be the best because it is the most expensive, the reality of the situation is that it takes lots and lots of time to learn how use this software. The computer and space needed to run these programs efficiently explodes money wise and become a very serious commitment to invest into. If you are looking for the very best in PC or Mac digital video editing, then Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premier are the answers. But before taking the huge leap of investing, take a look at the different software in all of the price classes and see what delivers and what doesn't in each. Look at all the options that are out there and find the one that truly fits your needs. Don't buy more than you need, but definitely don't settle for less than what you bargained for either.
