5 tips to manage employees for effective productivity

businessportrait30393821.jpgIn order to manage employees, a manager must have good people-skills that allow them to work hard and get along with a variety of personalities. Employees need to work for a person that they trust and respect in order to have motivation to work hard. If you are trying to find ways to encourage your employees to work hard, here are 5 tips you need to follow for effective productivity:

Tip # 1 - Setting goals

A great way to encourage your employees to become productive is to ask them for help in setting goals for the company. If you have divided your employees into groups, having all of them get together and come up with personal and team goals is a great way to motivate them. Then you can hold brainstorming sessions to find out how they can achieve their goals. The reason why you should have your employees help set some goals is that it will give them a vested interest in the company. This way they want to buy into goals that have been set and these goals will actually become a reality.

Another reason why you should talk to your employees about setting goals is because it will help you make goals that are based on some of the ups and downs that occur within the company. Since your employees have first-hand experience with the different problems that happen, they can make realistic goals which can be hard for managers to do since they don't always have the opportunity to experience goals.

Tip # 2 - Be fair

In order to become a successful manager, you need to be fair to your employees. This means you need to be consistent in your management duties. Treat your employees as equals and evenly spread out the workload so that they do not feel overwhelmed. Do not dump work on your employees as this creates a bad work environment. You will have employees that are unhappy in their jobs, thereby reducing employee morale for everyone else.

Tip # 3 - Sense of humor

A great way to manage your employees properly is to have a sense of humor. If you have a good sense of humor, you can break the tension in hard situations that can easily reduce employee morale. Having a sense of humor not only breaks the tension, it makes you more approachable. Your employees will be able to come to you when they have problems, making it easier for them to do their jobs.

If you notice an employee is troubled or is having a rough day, come up and crack a silly joke. This will hopefully help to lighten the mood a little bit and it will help them feel better.

Tip # 4 - Provide feedback

Employees need to receive feedback. When a manager doesn't respond to emails and they don't hold regular employee evaluations, an employee will become frustrated as they will not know if they are doing their job correctly. Providing them with feedback is the best way to help them improve their skills and to become a good employee. Providing feedback also shows employees that you are not wasting their time.

Tip # 5 - Praise employees

Going along the same lines as providing feedback, you should praise your employees for their hard work and contributions to the company. Praise employees in front of their coworkers so everyone can see that they are working hard. Being praised in front of your peers will do wonders for your self-esteem and self-confidence, which is essential to employee morale.

There are several other things you can do to boost employee productive but these 5 tips have been effective for several managers.
