Tips for creating a niche within a market

Niche marketing consists of two main parts. They are finding specifically who you would like to market to and making yourself stand out so those people come to you. Here are a few tips to help you with both of those areas

Ways to stand out in the market

- Be known for your satisfaction guarantees.Stand behind all of the products you sell and give people the best customer service around.Customers who are happy with the service tend to be repeat customers.
- Let them know how long you have been in business, after a while it will show them that you are established and that you are good at doing business. They will start to show trust when you have been around a while.
- Offer competitively lower prices and more services. This means have your product be less expensive and offer free delivery. You will make up for the delivery costs with the extra customers that are attracted.
- If you have won an award recently, show it off.Display it and maybe even mention it in an advertisement.Customers will be glad to know that there are lots of satisfied customers.
- If there is any way possible, have products that are made by hand.People tend to feel like hand made is better for different reasons. This doesn't mean all of your products, just a few popular ones.
- Give your product an edge by promoting some of its qualities that supersede the competitors. These might be that your product gives faster results, is lighter or more compact, lasts longer, is easier to use, or is safer for the consumer. All of these things will make your product stand out.
- Appeal to customers senses, both with your product and with your store or website.Make sure that there are no offensive odors or music.Make everything pleasing to look at, hear, smell, touch, and maybe even taste!
- Have your products easy to get to.If you have a website, make sure it is easily navigated and purchasing is not complicated. If you have a store, be sure it is set up nicely and that the cash registers are easy to find.Make sure your customer service is second to none!

Finding your target market

- Define who your market is.If you have a customer base already established look at your typical customer. If you have a variety of products there will probably be more than one area to group them into.Make your market or markets big enough to be profitable but small enough to be specific.
- Find out what your market wants and then offer it.You probably picked that market because you already offer what they want or need, but make sure that your products change with their needs.
- Develop relationships with current customers as well as trying to bring in new.If your current customers are happy with your business and feel like you are the best then they will be marketers for you and recommend you to friends and family.
- Find a cost effective way of advertising to your markets, don't let them feel like they are paying for your expensive ads.You will benefit best from advertising in the right way to the right people.

Make sure that you are on your toes and staying flexible.Your markets and products will be forever changing, you may feel like you are never caught up.That is ok, if you can make the customers happy and satisfy their needs then you have found your niche!
