In our lives a lot of our communication takes place over the phone. The phone has allowed us the ability to contact people who live all over the world. Whether you are talking to your next door neighbor, or someone on the other side of the country, you can get a clear connection. Thus, talking on the phone whether for social reasons, business reasons, or otherwise is a daily occurrence in our lives. Being able to record these conversation could be very useful.

A telephone call recorder is a device that allows you to record both ends of a telephone conversation. A phone recorder can be either digital or cassette, so the recording can be saved as a file or on a cassette tape. With this in mind, let's take a look at why you should have a telephone recorder. The following are some reasons why everyone, not just the spy-minded should have a telephone recorder:

Protection. You never know when recording a conversation could aid you in personal or business security. If you are being accused wrongly of something and a conversation proving your innocence of that took place on the phone, how useful would that recording be? Imagine having a recording of a verbal threat. You would probably get a better response from law enforcement, etc. if you have proof that a threat exists. Protecting yourself from misunderstanding, miscommunication, a repeated conversation that is inaccurately retold, and more are the benefits of having a telephone call recorder.

Legal protection. In many cases a recorded telephone conversation can protect you legally. For example, if you record all phone calls on your business lines, and your business is being investigated for insider trading, you could use the recorded conversations to prove your innocence, or someone else's guilt. Whether personal or business, one of the reasons you should have a telephone recorder is because of how it can protect you legally. However, in order to use it, you need to know the laws in your state about audio recordings, and if they are admissible in trials, etc.

Aid in remembering. One of the big advantages of having a telephone call recorder is that it can help you remember things you may otherwise forget. For example, let's say Joe Schmoe is at home, and his wife Jane is going to be away visiting her mother for a week. Jane calls Joe during one of the college bowl games. Jane goes over all of the things Joe needs to remember to do while she is gone, like water the plants, pick up the dry cleaning, pay a bill, take a child to dance, etc. Well, Joe is watching a game and does not get up for a pen to write it all down because there are seconds left on the clock and the score is tied. So, what can he do? He can review the tape. This is a somewhat extreme example, but the fact is, having a record of exactly what is said can really help you remember things that you would otherwise forget. Why? Because you can go back to it and relisten to clarify for yourself.

Record of conversations held, both business and personal. Another reason you should have a telephone recorder is simply to have a record of conversations. You can use these records for all of the above things, such as to remind yourself of a birth date mentioned over the phone, or to prove that you fired someone for the right reasons, and did not harass them, etc. Records are a big part of life, and keeping accurate records can give you many benefits. So, one of the best reasons to have a telephone call recorder, even if you do not have spy purposes in mind, is simply to keep a record.
