The Different Tools of Six Sigma

When it comes to running a successful manufacturing plant you have to look at all of the programs and options that are available to help you out. Six Sigma is one of the most popular programs used in order to help reduce your defect ratio and provide customers with higher quality products. The common method of Six Sigma is known as DMAIC. This method is defined as follows:

- Define - this phase is where you will end up identifying problems within the company that need to be addressed. You will look into a number of things that can have issues from the production line to the way in which your employees perform their job duties.
- Measure - with this phase you will focus on using the problems that you defined and to create steps that allow you to measure the results of your work. Having some tools in place that allow you to identify where you can easily manage each step of the manufacturing process will help the products to go from start to finish in a timely manner.
- Analyze - during this phase you will look at the tools that you set and to determine what inputs are working and what you need to change. This is really the brainstorming phase to see if what you thought would work actually does work and to test new theories to see if you will be able to meet the defect ratio that is promised with proper implementation of Six Sigma.
- Improve - this phase is where you will need to create a plan that actually can provide you with improvement in not only the product but in customer service and a number of other things. Use the different variables you set in the measure phase with the new theories from the analyze phase in order to find ways to improve your company.
- Control - the final phase is where you will have tools that allow you to maintain the improvements that you have made. This is the monitoring phase where you will not only document what you have done but to see what is working and how to continue using Six Sigma in an effective way.

Look at other manufacturing plants that have been able to find success with Six Sigma. Take a look at the programs that they used and how they have been able to make the right type of adjustments in order to create a successful company. You need to look into Six Sigma tools that will aid in giving you set ways to manage your program. Value stream mapping is one way in which you can look at how a product is created and produced. You want to use it to help with the overall workflow process of the company and to help your employees see what is expected of them as well as what their job duties and responsibilities are. Six Sigma training programs will allow you to understand how you can make the right adjustments to your plant in order to find success!
