Optimize one post for SEO

manrelaxingatdesk30846571.jpgOne of the strongest things you can do for marketing is to have high search engine rankings. One of the fastest ways to get the high search engine rankings is to implement and practice the concepts of SEO in your website and blog set up, as well as in your writing. A good way to ensure you are staying on top of it is to periodically go back to an old post, maybe one that was not getting a lot of search engine traffic, and follow these steps to optimize it:

1. Identify which posts to optimize.
Most blogs have hundreds if not thousands of posts, so it can be tricky determining which posts to do a little more SEO on. So, start by taking advantage of something like Google Analytics. You can then evaluate your posts search engine traffic. The best post to use to for this exercise, to optimize for search engines are the ones that are already getting some search engine traffic, but that could be ranking higher. In other words, if they are on the board, but aren't in the #1 slot, they are a great place to start for optimization.

If a page is generating some traffic from Google for a keyword, but isn't the top ranked, then your goal should be to tweak that post to increase the ranking, and the traffic. This is great for your business from a marketing standpoint, more exposure, more sales.

Also look for a blog post or page that links to other pages across your blog, that way, when you start to generate more traffic for that one post, it will spill over to your other posts as well.

2. Analyze your competition.
What pages are out there ranking higher than yours? What key words are they optimizing? It can be really useful to take a look at your competition, and see what it is that they are doing with the keywords they are beating you on. You can use a tool like market-samurai-SEO.png which is a keyword analysis tool for this. In addition to giving you a handle on where you stand, it can help you know if you have a chance of getting a high ranking for the keyword you are going for.

3. On page optimization.
Now you want to optimize the actual page and content. To do this you might want to start with things like getting your keywords into your title tags, header tags and even your URL. You can then go in and use keywords throughout your post in bold, in image tags, as titles, and the like. While none of these things are going to move you up alone, put together, they can really help.

4. Off page optimization. Now you want to get working on getting some links, back links are really important for SEO. So, put in the time and effort to get those links and improve your rankings as a result. Ask for them, trade for them, offer incentive to people to put them up, make it easy to link to your pages.
