Mistakes that can ruin your website

There are a lot of things that can go wrong in a marketing campaign. If you aren't careful you can end up making some big mistakes and they could ruin your website. You need to be careful about the marketing mistakes that can be made and to watch out for them so you are able to retain your customers. Here are some of the common marketing mistakes that can be made with your website and how you can avoid these mistakes from costing you customers:

- Failure to list contact information. Your customers need to have the "trust factor" right away. They need to know that they are talking to a real person. They will look for your contact information in order to see if they can get in touch with you. If they are unable to find this information it can spell trouble for your company and you may find it difficult to keep your website statistics high.
- Forgetting to list prices. Some companies think that by not listing their prices it will get the customer to call them. It can often do the exact opposite of this and you can lose customers. People want to know how much things cost right away. Always list your prices and on those higher priced items you may list the lowest price and then tell the customer to contact you as prices may tend to fluctuate. Prices are one of the ways people shop and they will use it to differentiate when they are comparing products.
- Broken links and outdated content. Nothing can be more annoying to a customer than a website that hasn't had new information in months or years! You need to update your website often and always make sure your links are working. Check the site to see if you have any misspelled words and other concerns as this can annoy the customers. Remove the outdated content and be sure to send out emails to let people know you have new information on the website that they should go check out.
- Horizontal scrolling. This is a way to lose customers in a hurry. People hate scrolling left to right, only make your website large enough to scroll up and down so people can easily find information.
- Too many fonts and too many font sizes. Try to keep your website to one font and avoid changing the size of the font often. If you keep changing, the site will appear cluttered and it can be quite annoying to the customer that is looking for information. Fix your font size so it is readable.
- Failure to break up text. Sometimes people just start adding paragraph after paragraph and they fail to break it up. Avoid large blocks of text because it is very boring and people can lose their place in the text. Try to use some bullet points and other things to try and break it up.
- Too many pictures. The search engines hate pictures and a website that is built with picture after picture is frustrating. You need to avoid adding too many pictures to your website or it can lose the attention of your customers.
- Failure to add a privacy policy to your website and emails. Your customers will sign up for information but they want to know that you aren't going to sell off your email list. Always add a privacy policy to your website for your customers to see so they know what they are signing up for.

Always keep a close eye onyour website and make sure you are doing all that you can to keep it up to date and that it is functioning correctly. Spending time on your site will give your customers greater returns.
