What is nano technology, how can it benefit you

Before we can begin talking about nano technology you should first make sure that you know what a nano is. A nano is one billionth of a meter, hard to imagine measuring anything that small. But with that being said nano technology is basically a term that includes a variety of application specific technologies and research into objects that are a nano meter or even smaller. Nano technology is based on the understanding of how to manipulate atoms to provide you with a desired result, and the end result is to produce something that uses the least amount of atoms possible.

When creating nano technology goods there are three primary stems that are used.

- Manipulation of single atoms - this is the basics of nano technology. It is used to manipulate and control individual atoms, which is necessary to begin the development and programming of assemblers.
- Development of nanoscopic machines called assemblers - these machines will be programmed to have the ability to manipulate molecules and atoms so that they can create materials one atom at a time. This technology will require the use of billions of assemblers to create the goods in an acceptable timeframe.
- Application of replicators - these will be used to mass produce the assemblers. If you were to create assemblers manually you would have to use a massive amount of resources so it would be easier and faster to create nano machines that will actually build themselves.

Now that we know the basic components of nano technology and how they work we can talk about what they are going to be used for. Basically the assemblers and replicators will be working together to create numerous products automatically, which means that there will not be any human hands putting together the products they will be strictly behind the scenes. By allowing the assemblers and replicators to create products automatically the products will be reproduced more efficiently and at a much lower cost.

Here are some ways that nano technology will benefit you.
- Stronger fibers - this means that tears and holes in clothes and other products will be stronger. This benefit has already been demonstrated, the fibers reached close to 90% of their expected breaking point, where as steel reaches less than 10%.
- Faster computers - today's computers are quickly reaching their limit because of the size that is needed and how much heat is produced from power consumption. With nano technology manufactures will be able to design and build computers that are a lot smaller in size and that can store terabytes of information.
- Medical revolution - Nanobots will be able to be consumed by patients to attack and cure specific diseases because they can be programmed to reconstruct the viruses or affected cells to make them harmless. They can also make surgery easier, it will get rid of scars that conventional surgery leaves behind and where they work will be a lot more precise than a sharp scalpel.
- Environmental applications - Nanobots will also be airborne which will allow them to clean up oil spills instantly or purify your drinking water. But best of all they can be used to create equivalent products of our renewed resources so that we can reduce our reliance on those resources.

While all of this sounds fine and dandy you need to keep in mind that nano technology is still being developed and none of this is actually being done yet. But there is a commitment to the research and development into furthering our understanding and control of nano technology.
