What you can do to make your plant safer and better for everyone

The heavy equipment you use can be incredibly dangerous for your employees as the moving parts and other things can cause severe injuries to occur. Keeping your employees safe is important for your company to remain in business and to keep your company's reputation higher. If you don't focus on keeping your employees safe, it can lead to a number of issues besides just lawsuits.

Our job is to keep your employees safe by looking for new ways to implement simple safety regulations. Something as simple as adding new signage or even including anti-fatigue floor mats to your company can all help you stay safe and will help to improve the way in which you do business. It will also help to improve employee morale and satisfaction as your employees will enjoy safer working environments.

One of the best ways to help keep your employees safe is by posting signs. You want to make sure you have posted all of the signs pertaining to the different equipment in order to make sure your employees know what they need to do. The signs can help to protect your company as you can prove that you have informed your employees of proper safety precautions and regulations. The signs need to include warnings for specific machines that are dangerous such as what ages a person needs to be in order to use the machine, etc. You also want to use signs that clearly state what type of clothing needs to be worn and other things that can help to ensure you are doing everything within your power to help keep your employees safe.

Another big step to help keep your employees safe is by implementing proper training procedures. Training programs that can help you stay safe include programs like behavior-based safety and other simple tools. Training and teaching your employees how they need to work is a great way to make sure your employees are using proper mechanics and that they aren't their own worst enemy and causing the problems within the company.

Preventative Measures
To prevent workplace accidents, do some simple things like installing things that will help to make their jobs easier such as including anti-fatigue floor matting, using ergonomic chairs, including important things like gloves, eye protection, and all the things they need to remain safe. Take a look at every machine you have and look at the problems and accidents that could be caused because of the machine. As you take the proper steps to prevent accidents before they occur, you will save yourself a lot of money and anguish.

A number of businesses have found that no matter how many training seminars they offer, there are still going to be some employees that don't practice safe behavior. By using incentive programs, you can give your employees a little extra motivation to work harder towards staying safe. Incentive programs are great as you don't even need to pay them hundreds of dollars. Recognizing employees that practice safe behavior and rewarding them with little things like an extra hour of PTO or even a gift card to a local restaurant is a great way to show them safety is a priority.

Measure the results. Take a look at how many workplace accidents or complaints you had in the past before your company adopted behavior based safety to help aid in the prevention of accidents. This is the best way to see if it is working and what you need to do differently in order to help your employees stay safe.
