What a blackberry phone can do for your business

For about a year, I had been receiving emails with the exit line "from the blackberry of (whomever)".Reading this, I wondered about this device, the blackberry, but not being fully teched out, I didn't pursue that curiosity. Then one day I was on a ski lift with my friend Katie and she pulled out this little phone and made some promises I was sure she couldn't keep. She then typed onto a miniature keyboard on the phone and was able to make her business transactions from right there from the ski lift.I was positively amazed by the fact that Katie was able to be at work, in the office almost, while skiing with me.Wow!I had to get a blackberry.

If you are a business owner or a business manager, you might consider what this business phone can do for your business. The "phone-ish" assets are that it allow yours employee to make conference calls, use Bluetooth, or a speakerphone from any place they are able to get a cell phone signal. It also messages and allows users to use email, or go online. On older BlackBerries, the BlackBerry messenger was the only server available. On the newer blackberries, you can message with MSN, Yahoo, AIM, or ICQ.It was the email capabilities that amazed me up on the ski lift.

Besides being able to make phone calls and send emails, the phones include calendars and scheduling capabilities. With up to 64 MB of memory, they can store plenty of contact information as well.

Maybe less pertinent to your business but still a nice benefit for your employees is that the blackberry has multimedia functions. The BlackBerry Pearl has a 1.3-megapixel camera phone with a built in flash. The Curve has a 2-megapixel camera. The phones also play music from MP3 files and play non-WMV videos (but WMV is certainly coming). The EDGE connection is not enough to streamline video though so you won't need to worry about your employees watching the Sopranos on their BlackBerry phones--yet.However, the newer phones do feature downloadable games, which might be something that you think twice about offering to your employees.

If you are considering a BlackBerry phone for your business, there are plenty of choices for you to make. There are currently 17 different BlackBerry phones and they all offer slightly different menus, set-ups, and features.A new BlackBerry comes out about once every 3 or 4 months and always offers more features. The latest addition is the BlackBerry Curve 8300.This phone was announced in May of 2007 and has features like a 64 MB flash memory, trackable navigation, an HTML browser, and downloadable games. It also offers travel services, which is quite valuable for employees who travel often. The CEO of MobiMat, Nadav Gur, calls the newest BlackBerry the "Swiss army knife of mobile travel".In spite of the redundancy (what is non-mobile travel?) he well describes the capacity of BlackBerry technology.

The technology is changing so quickly that you might consider waiting a while as the latest and greatest becomes later and greater. As the technology is improving on the new models, the price is dropping on the old models. This is just something to consider while you are making your yearly budget and deciding how many and what kinds of business phones to add.

If you have a business where cell phone signals might interfere with sensitive equipment, BlackBerry has a solution.Through the WiFi signals, emails and other digital information can still be delivered. This might be important if your BlackBerry user is going to be spending a lot of time in airplanes or in hospitals.
