Computer Maintenance Tips

At this point, most people use a computer multiple times a day.Whether it is for business or pleasure, computers have infiltrated and changed the fabric of our lives.Because of their importance to the continuing of contact with friends, family, work and that one guy that you haven't seen since high school but are now friends with on social media, it is important to keep your computer running at optimal efficiency.(We can use the term optimal efficiency because we are talking about computers. In any other context the term would seem overly nerdy unless the conversation as about robots.)

There are some very easy things that people can do to help their computer keep running at a speed that lets them browse multiple web sites at a time, stream movies, play video games and keep up with all of the news. The first thing is to run and maintain a virus program.Viruses, Trojan horses, malware, spyware and adware can all be programs that slow down a computer and make its performance less than what it was when it was purchased.A good virus protection program will do more than just keep the computer from getting a virus, it will also protect against the other outside threats to the computer.
Virus programs are updated regularly, so it is important to keep up on the updates as they come to your computer. Many times, this will take place when you shut down the computer, but sometimes a virus protection program will ask you if you want to download the latest update. The answer should be "yes" with the knowledge that it might be necessary to restart the computer when the update is finished.
Using a good virus program is complemented by having good internet using habits. It is important not to visit sites that may offer harmful downloads or that may spread viruses. It is also important not to download anything from the internet that may have a virus attached to it.If you do not know the site, it is better not to download anything from it rather than risk getting a virus that may steal personal information from the computer you are using.

Computers may get slow because the memory is being wasted.People should look through the list of programs under the programs module in the control program. This is the module that gives the option to uninstall programs. Those programs that are no longer used should be uninstalled. It is important to be sure to create a restore point in case a program that is essential to the computer is uninstalled by accident. The restore point will be able to recover that file.

Defragmentation is a program that should be run on a regular basis. It does take time to do so, but its function makes it worth it.Defragmentation takes programs that are similar and groups them together. This allows the hard drive to run faster. The easiest way to find the disk defragmenter is to type defrag in the search bar under the all programs menu option. For Windows, it is marked by the Windows logo in the tool bar.

Some computers have an available tune-up program recommended by the manufacturer. The tune-up will automatically run unless it is manually delayed by the user at the time of notification that it will run.Allowing the tune-up to run is a great idea for continued maximum performance.Like any vehicle, a tune-up keeps the computer running well.Regular computer maintenance will keep the computer running well enough that it will continue to be a source of joy rather than a source of frustration.
