When it comes to digital photography the options for use are endless. People use their digital cameras for any number of things. Let's take a look at some of the many uses:

Accident and insurance claims: When you make a claim for your insurance, you need proof. Whether it is for a house or a car, or whatever, having visual proof of the claim is important. One great use of digital photography is the ability to take a photo of you smashed fender, or your stained carpet, and submit it as part of your insurance claim.

To sell things: We live in a visual world, that is why television is far more popular than books on tape or CD. So, one great use of digital photography is the ability to show people what you are selling. Whether it is a house, dog, or bike, photos say a thousand words and a digital photo is super simple. You can take a picture and upload it, and wha la, you have a visual for your classified ad, and you get way more results.

Medical and clinical: in the medical and clinical profession, using digital cameras has gotten really big. They are used to document, to compare, to show improvements, etc. The uses in this field alone are almost limitless.

Fun, point and shoot: obviously one the best uses of digital photography is the ability to point and shoot great pictures, and instantly see if we got it right, if someone's eye's are closed, or their hair blew in their face, or whatever. So, for vacations, fun, holiday's etc. digital photography is a great way to capture the memory, and the way you want to remember it.

Professional: digital photography has become a profession. People pay photographers thousands of dollars to take photos of their family, business, etc. Digital is so much easier to use and edit than film, so in many ways, digital photography has opened up the door for far more photographers to be really great. No longer do you have to always get the perfect shot, now you can create it using digital editing.

Portraits: passports, driver's licenses, etc. are all way faster and easier now that you can point, click, and print in a matter of less than a minute. No more waiting for chemicals to develop film. No more worries about exposure, etc. Digital photography is used everywhere to make like easier, and faster.

Educational uses:
Digital cameras are easy and fun to use and they offer teachers nearly unlimited opportunities to engage students and to incorporate technology into their curriculum. Teachers often have a hard time getting children engaged in learning, and with digital photography, doing so has become much easier. The following are a few examples of uses of digital photography in the educational realm:

  • For an anatomy class for children you can take photos of body parts and allow students to make puzzles with them.
  • To help with safety and orientation a teacher could photograph important places in the school, such as the main office, nurse's office, and media center, and display the photos to help students visually identify key places in the school.
  • For small children, to learn colors, letters etc. you can photograph objects that they have or use that are the same color.
  • Help children interact by taking photos of them, and letting them create their personal trading cards with facts about themselves. Then trade and share until they each get to know the others in the classroom.

There are so many uses for digital photography, so go out there and find your favorite.
